Hola de Oaxaca, we'e not in Kansas/Baja anymore! Photos being added
Into week two of a five week stay in Oaxaca City, where the weather is wonderful...high 50s at night and low 80s days, with occasional thunderstorms,
late afternoons and evenings. This is a vibrant colonial city of over 800,000, with many outlying towns and 17 distinct indigenous groups. Sights,
sounds, tastes are marvelous.
I'm hampered by not being able to easily post photos from my iPad but will work on that going back to previous forums. In the meantime, will be glad
to answer questions.

Quick logistical question: assuming that you're traveling from Loreto, how did you get there?

I may have said this already... but if you're hungry one morning, there's a group of three women who run a comal in a nook along the street side of
the Templo del Carmen Alto. It's on Manual García Vigil, the main road that runs uphill from the zócalo. It's two blocks up from Café Brújula (also
well worth a visit).
Absolutely incredible "tacos de chile relleno" with chiles de agua, molotes, memelas, quesadillas, etc., rock bottom prices as always. Also, the
absolutely best pozole I've ever had in my life, Guerrero-style, was at La Gran Torta at the corner of Porfirio Díaz and Mariano Matamoros.

Damn rhintransit,
I'd enjoy being where you are. There are handicraft markets different villages outside of town, daily . . . one or another.
We last stayed on the zocalo, or public square. A hotel with about 19 inch walls.
Enjoy!

Loved Oaxaca when we went! Remember to visit the house Porfirio Diaz, first and only Indian ever to become president of Mexico.
We also went to a village not too far away, I think San Juan Chamula? Incredible with native Indians who speak not a word of Spanish, who hate to be
photographed and have a vibrant, huge local street market.
What most i pressed me was the church. All were sitting on the floor, in their separate family units, with food and offerings and candles.

It's Benito Juarez you are thinking of...full blooded Zapotec. Others were part indigenous. Vicente Guerrero, another president was part indigenous
and descended also from African slaves. San Juan Chamula is outside San Cristobal de las Casas...a long way from Oaxaca!

Drove to La La Paz, spent the night, flew out on Aeromexico at 6:30 am to Mexico City then on to Oaxaca, we were at our rental doors by 12:30. Very
slick. Return, leave here around 1:30, to La Paz around 5. Drive to Loreto the next day.
Hope to get pictures loaded tonight. Thanks to all for your suggestions.

Okay, am still figuring out photobucket ap for iPad. Sorry can't yet post photos here but if you go to the link you should see the first set.
Everyone wants to know where one can stay so here are some shots of " our" place. Right next it Soledad Cathedral, in a 17th century building. The
walls are four and five feet thick in places. Two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bath, and, best of all, a house kitty Marta who visits.
I wanted to share an album on Photobucket with you!

Looks like a great spot...how did you find it? I, too, especially like a place with a resident kitty!

Here you go, I hope. Some, but only a few, of the churches of Oaxaca. Beyond baroque! Most built or started in the 1500's. The Baja missions
definitely got the short end of the financial and decorative stick.

Since you mentioned food...wow, what a fantastic place for sights, smells, tastes. Great street vendors all over, charming cafés, little restaurants
and big, all the way up to dine dining. We've been more busy eating than photographing the food, but here are a few shots.
I have to start with a plug for the best ever burgers and milkshakes in Baja, at WTF, next to Palermos, in La Paz. Kobo beef, from Australia,
ciabatta buns from LA, perfectly cooked. The black and blue burger, blue cheese, bacon, sautéed onions was a thumbs up favorite.
Moving on, shots of various spots in Oaxaca, including a charming little eatery, with purple chairs, across the street. Inexpensive and good.
Interior shot of our kitchen where we are trying out various market, real market, bought, moles. La Olle tortilla soup...unforgettable. Fresh fish
in Oaxaca too. And stalking the wild ratoncita. A bakery confection, mouse shaped, filled with dense chocolate torte. Differs bakery to bakery,
some with pecans, some almost fudge. We're continuing the hunt for the best.
Unfortunately, in no particular order
