WWII Pictures Then and Now

Subject: WWII

Click on each to have them transition to the modern day photo (then and now).
Very moving photos - and what a great job by the Getty photographer who replicated the shots.

Look at the picture.. then click on it to see the same scene today (70+ years later)!

It's neat when you click on each photo, (starting with photo # 2)

This is really interesting! Even though it's not Baja, I am glad you shared this link!!

Excellent post. I was stationed in what was then W. Germany '60 - '62 and my wife and I lived off post, renting an apartment in the little town of Herzogenaurach (the same town of the famous brotherly feud of Adidas and Puma). We made many friends among the locals and kept in touch for years. Our landlord, a private in the Wehrmacht, had been stationed in Normandy but was among those who were moved further east when the ruse Operation Fortitude (or at least the Pas de Calais part of the ruse) worked. He said he was forever grateful for that re-deployment.

My wife and I have spent several weeks (three separate trips) in Normandie and Bretagne. Very sobering to stand and contemplate the hell that took place there.

And, the facades seem to be much the same, amazing how the history of centuries seems to have been preserved....
