Vessel IVER needs assistance

We received the following email from live aboard friends down in Santa Rosalia:

" Mary on Vessel IVER has been found shipwrecked near Punta Trinidad. Needs help getting her boat off the beach. Does not want to leave her boat so needs major help from outside sources. If you are talking with any vessels in Bay of LA area, please pass on that information."

We are hoping that by passing the word on, someone down in the area can give her a hand.

Msg forwarded to XE2/KG6RSM Jay & XE2/KG6RSL Janice (via winlink) who I believe are in the BoLA area (but not sure as I haven't heard from them since Odile passed through...but then no news is good news, right?)

Punta Trinidad is about 12 miles south of the 28º parallel; midway between El Barril (village south of Punta San Francisquito) and Santa Rosalia.

It is far closer to Santa Rosalia than to L.A. Bay. Let's hope help arrives before the boat is too badly damaged!

David,

Evidently there were boaters holding up in Don Juan in LA Bay, that may be heading south, that is why the message I was asked post was pin pointed to that area. Also I posted online so anyone on land without ham radio would get the message.

nowhere near BOLA and no road to it either..it would have to be a boat to rescue her...dang it. Maybe someone could talk to the fishermen at El Barril so they could go check.

Their is a 2 track that several of us have taken through the area over the past 4 years and we have actually swam and camped at Punta Trinidad, however that area was ravaged by the storm and their are several spots that I can think are impassable coming in from El Barril.

We usually go in thru El Barril and exit thru the volcanic national park that comes out south of San Ignacio. Perhaps in a week or so the ranchers east of the national park will venture to the beach to the fish camps and provide some assistance.

It's an amazing beautiful trek through the area but after the storm its gonna be awhile to get back in there.

Having survived a hurricane in a small sailboat at sea...I can imagine how terrifying things got for Capt. Mary. Poor thing stranded out there all by herself after such an ordeal..I hope her water tanks are intact. What a story that will be!

WB heard on hf radio that "she's ok, boat's trashed & she's going home". This from one of the net controllers on a day we weren't on the air.

holing up in one of the most remote spots in baja , with no medical or marine services near by is not a good idea . Glad everyone is safe BUT be proactive Know the storm, route ,anchorage ,escape. All is available .

oh you mean MY sea shanty? that tale is reserved for round the campfire, face to face...heart to heart time...so you will have to come and hang out for me to share it with you!;)

I wonder if Mary was holed up there or just washed up there. I guess some cruising folks are oblivious to weather or not prepared to deal with a big storm. I cant believe how many boats stayed anchored out in La Paz either. I think I would rather ride it out at sea although that too is a harrowing experience...bobbing mercilessly like a cork in monstrous seas and wind....it all sucks.
