Bisbee's Black & Blue Tournament News — September 25, 2014

Hola everyone,

I wanted to share some great news about the on-going recovery efforts in Cabo San Lucas…

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto was scheduled to arrive in Cabo this morning. He will be touring the IGY Marina and making the announcement that the San Jose International Airport will be open for commercial service by October 8th which when the Gupo Aeropuerto del Pacifico says it will be open. The official statement was followed by “in actuality it will be sooner.” Remember that the La Paz airport (LAP) is operating normally. So that means more help is on the way and it also means all flights prior to the Los Cabos Offshore and Black & Blue should be operating normally.

We’re currently contacting every hotel now to get a list of which ones are open, or when they will, the present conditions (repairs, water, electricity, internet) and will blast this out as soon as it is compiled. At present , there are more than 2,000 rooms in Los Cabos open for business.

The IGY Marina has fuel available right now and is more than 70 percent operational. They will be making tremendous headway in the coming days to complete that process and be ready for tournament action.

Cabo San Lucas is returning to normal. The stores/shops/restaurants are open for business or nearly ready. The banks and ATMs are back in operation as well.

Waves for Water is distributing even more water filtration systems to those areas that still need water. This is one of the groups the Bisbee's Cabo Relief Fund is supporting, along with Club Dust, (Club Dust on FaceBook) which has boots on the ground already constructing shelters for those unfortunate who lost their homes.

Bob Bisbee Senior has set up an office at the Bisbee’s Store inside Baja Cantina Marina to distribute grants and low-interest loans to the independent charter boats, bait pangas and eco-tour guides to help them get back on their feet and out on the water.

The response to the Bisbee’s Cabo Relief Fund has been awesome and I thank all of you who have generously contributed. We’re still accepting donations and 100 percent of the money is going to the people who need it the most—those hit hardest by this devastating natural disaster. So thanks again for all your help.

The situation in Cabo San Lucas is improving hourly and we’re doing our best to stay on top of it and keep you informed. One of the best ways we can help is with the economic boost that comes with tourism and sport-fishing. So at this point we’re planning to keep the ball rolling with the LCO and B&B next month, as originally scheduled.

More information to come asap!

With fingers crossed,
Wayne
