Albacore

I wanted to pass on some info about a fishing trip I took in late summer up here in Washington.
I fished from Westport. I took 2 trips. 1st for salmon and then for tuna.
The salmon trip went ok and I caught 6 cohos. Chinooks were in the area but we didn't get them.
It was fun and I finally satisfied my salmon lust. But the thing about fishing up here is that the ocean is very rough and the weather cold out on the water even during summer. The boats are on the small side at about 55 feet max compared to the San Diego fleet which are mostly 85 feet or so.
I thought it was rough when I salmon fished but when I went albie fishing it was even rougher! And very expensive at $600 for about a day and a half.
Since there is no limit on tuna the goal is to fish until the fish hold is full. The boat I fished holds about 200 fish in the 20-30 lb range.
Thankfully we got our fish by about mid-afternoon and could start the slow trip back home at about 10 knots. Probably we were 50 miles out.
Even still I will rate this as my best fishing trip off my life. I stopped counting after I caught 20 tuna. Might have caught as many as 30. My arms were spent by the end of the day. All on anchovies fly lined on 25 lb test line except think I got 2 or 3 jig fish trolling.
It was truly awesome and gave me a chance to see just how good fishing can be when not overfished

Yeah it was fun. Might even do it again next year if I can talk myself into another really rough boat ride.

Mike.....speaking of pain.......did you hear Anthony's almost burned down?
Plan your next trip south accordingly.
Good to see you, by the way.
