Launching a sailboat in San Felipe
Larry, it is not far to Marina San Carlos from Tucson area. 4 lane road, decent shape. Marina San Carlos (just N. of Guaymas) has a ramp, trailer
storage, and vehicle storage. Give them a call for current info. Deep water there.

Well, I wouldnt call San Carlos the northern SOC.......but I think he will be a lot happier with the sailing and the scenery. He could utilize a good
ramp, independent of tides, and even a slip in a marina, if he chooses.
To me, the northern SEA is pretty much a line from maybe San Francisquito to Bahia Kino and north. San Carlos is more like the mid latitudes; San
Francisquito down to Loreto with moderate tides and better water visibility. And the winds often howl in the northern Sea from November thru mid-May.
San Felipe, especially, has no where to hide from them, unless he makes it down to the Encantadas.
The winter winds in San Carlos are much more moderate. Tides are really no issue. I think the sailing scenery is a lot better around San Carlos,
compared to San Felipe or Puerto Penasco. Safe, secure parking is everywhere.
The popular sailing months are the same; November thru May, but people sail here all year round. I would favor May and early November, if he can
handle a bit of warm air.

importation on their car and boat to visit San Carlos?

The boat, yes, the car, no.
Getting the importation permit can be handled by mail in the US. I dont know the link as some work, some dont, and I've never used it. Maybe create a
second post about this, if he is considering it. Even some marinas in Baja require this permit. It's only 50.00 US for 10 years.
I strongly suggest you do this by mail in advance. Much simpler. Get an FMM by mail, too, if you can.

....good suggestion....I don't believe SanFelipe has anything of a ramp...simply cross the beach.
...San Carlos marina has the full kaboodle
