Bridge Collapse

From Ron at the Talk Baja facebook page 11-24-14, 7:15PM

Due to a bridge collapse, the free road from La Mision to Ensenada has been closed. All traffic is being diverted to the Tecate-Ensenada road..

No further details at this time

Additional update 7:18PM

A section on the Free Road at kilometer 76 sank today and the Police has closed it..............

A fire in a storm type forced the temporary closure of the highway in both directions.

Crews are already working to repair the problem within the next hours, however, so far there is not a certain estimate.

The recommendation is that people who drive towards and back from Tijuana do so by opting for Ruta del Vino road.

The collapse is located near a slope off La Mission

Another report states one lane open

8:00PM
LIBRE UPDATE: Traffic flow just restored to the Libre. Only cars and small trucks will be allowed through and speeds will be reduced. Larger trucks, RV's and trailers will continue to be diverted to the Tecate route...

Clarification on bridge collapse

Apparently some type of wild land fire event burned around and possibly in a culvert under the roadway, compromising structural integrity. The "free" road is open and repairs are underway. There was no actual "bridge" collapse.

Drive safe

Does this affect the trip down from Tijuana through Ensenada and points south? Thanks.

I was reading an article yesterday about the old road and how it was originally built for horse carriages, and how there have been no improvements to it in over 50 years. Unfortunately I cant find the article. If I may make a sugestion to the Mex Government, rather than invest $30 mil us in Guadalupe
Valley that will more than likely benefit the wealthy, why not fix this F@#@# road that will benefit the entire state ???

The free road section from La Mision to Ensenada - the only route open right now - was entirely repaved in recent months. It is narrow, steep and has tight winding curves in a few areas, and some drivers go way too fast, but a lot of work has been done lately.
