The thread formerly known as "Stolen Boat Motor, La Ribera"
Last night as we were sleeping, sometime between 10pm and 8am, our boat motor was stolen out of our fenced and locked rental house yard in La Ribera.
The thieves entered over the back fence, detached the motor from the boat transom, and schlepped it and the gas tank out the same way they came in.
While I admire their feats of gymnastic ingenuity (the motor weights 100lbs-ish), I am less excited to now be the proud owner of a boat without a
motor.
Just a reminder that even though it appears to be safe and secure inside the fenceline, it's not. Reminded of that the hard way today.
If you happen to see a Yamaha 15hp 2 stroke long shaft motor being sold in a parking lot or at your local segunda on the East Cape, drop me a line.
Reward offered for safe return.

There must be something special about that particular motor. Some have been stolen here in the bay lately and when we were in the Caribbean they were
the #1 target by thieves looking for outboards. If I had one I would lock it up good.

It's a pretty great little motor - the power to weight ratio is off the charts and it's simple enough that even I can work on it. 100:1 mix on the
oil; not smoky like some two-strokes. Parts are cheap and pretty easy to find. I might go with a 25hp version on my next boat.

Now I want one. Do they still make two-stroke outboards?

Check your local segunda, you never know what you might find.
Yamaha doesn't make those for the US market any more. I believe they discontinued the light 2-strokes in 2008. I saw quite a few of them for sale on
US Craigslist when I was boat shopping this past fall. Looks like an enterprising person could buy a new one in Mexico, though: http://www.imemsa.com.mx/motores_enduro2t.html

If you report it to the local police, you may find a little help, but if you really want to get something done, file a report with the Ministerial in
La Paz. I had the local police lookng for a long time for a boat and motor that was stolen way back when at Muertos, but when I went into town and
filed a report with the Ministerial, things happened quickly. There is a big difference.

On the advice of a Nomad, we talked with the Ministerial yesterday in La Ribera. The officer came out to our property and took a report. Pretty
thorough, actually. I don't expect it to go anywhere but you never know.
The real bummer is that the winds here have finally died down and the forecast for the next week is just gorgeous. Stuck. On. Land. Dahhhh!

Put a reward equal to the value of the motor. It has worked for some I have talked to. You get the motor back and they MAY be held responsible.
Sorry to hear about your stolen motor.

Yes they still make two stroke motor's (thank god) I hung a 150 ETEC yesterday here in Monterey ca. and the boat is out on a shakedown cruise as I
type this..BTW don't listen to the BS about fourstrokes are better..simple fact is the new two strokes are cleaner, faster, quiet and better fuel
mileage that a same size 4 stroke...and a hell of a lot less parts and very, very little mantainice.....and a lot less cost to buy.......the dealers of
other makes have the people fooled about two strokes...and lake Tahoe is the most protected lake in the USA and the water cops run ETECS....put that
in your pipe and smoke it 4 stroke fools !

Many thanks for posting this, Capt..... You confirm what I suspected, and just in the nick of time for me as I was possibly going to replace my
Mercury 35 2-stroke for a 40 4-stroke (heavy) on my tiny Boston Whaler Super-sport. Now, I will look into the Evinrude E-tec, for sure.
