LONDON - the V & A Museum

My friend Jenesta and I took off for London and spent 2 days exploring the city. We spent hours in this FREE museum which is absolutely gargantuan in size. I took many photos and here is the link to the whole shebang

http://s296.photobucket.com/user/bheilheil/media/London/IMGP...

and here is a taste:

THE MUSEUM HAS JEWELERY, ART, SCULPTURE, STAINED GLASS WINDOWS, SECTIONS FOR JAPAN -KOREA -EUROPE and nothing for south, central or north America.

THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL SHOWING ON SHOES COMING UP. YOU COULD SPEND YEARS AND NOT REALLY SEE EVERYTHING. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO TOUCH ALMOST EVERYTHING - WHAT FUN!

THE FLOORS ARE ALL TILED:

WE HAVE BEEN TO THIS CATHEDRAL:

HOPE YOU HAD FUN WITH THIS LITTLE TOUR .... THE MUSEUM IS WONDERFUL.

WOW!

Never been to England except for a layover on the way to other European nations.

Amazing collection. Thank you for sharing. Did you get a new phone?

no new phone yet

England is a MOST unique country....the history it contains is second to none, the villages are so wonderful in their charm, London is as interesting as Paris, Venice, Athens with its free museums, theatres, double deckers and more. Report coming soon!

I touched a Ming Vase, still amazed that they let you do it.

Thank you for sharing the museum. Like you, I am amazed at your touching a Ming, it's mind boggling. Saw one in New Zealand but it was totally enclosed in thick glass. What did it feel like? Was it totally smooth or could you feel variations in the glaze?

Very good pics.

Been to Europe about 50 times, a dozen to London/England. You have to see it once, but I'd say it's the least interesting place in Europe. It's very different from the rest of Europe, especially London.

Barcelona, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Paris are all much better.

Thanks, Blanca...I love the great museums.

To find Paris, you need to bring it with you. The same goes for most places in the world that you really want to know. I think Blanca has brought all she needs.

I really like London and have been numerous times - you could spend a year JUST seeing the museums.

But I truly adore the countryside. Somerset County is idyllic - the villages like Wells and Glastonbury are just so fairy-tale like, I find it hard to believe that real people live there!

It has not been on my bucket list, but your reports are sneaking England onto that list.

THANKS

DianaT - you cannot imagine the history that is EVERYWHERE and the best part is that all the info is in ENGLISH!!!!!

medieval to roman and everything in between

and the first time I came in 1974, the food was deplorable. Now, it is excellent!

Nice photos! Looks like you are having a Blast! ... BTW All the national museums in the UK are free but you may need to pay for special exhibits

and there are plenty of private museums which are also not free - we went to a Victorian one that was really fantastic and the one in Somerset which I wrote about weeks ago was also paid but oh so worth it.
