Back in England 8/8/15 - almshouse

Well, we are back in England as of yesterday. It was very strange waking up in Poland and sitting in the kitchen here in Somerset, England having lunch at 2 pm.

Today was a beautiful day and here is a write-up:

First off- this is how the British keep flies out and let air in:

On the other side of the chains is this spectacular garden and Rex's brother !!!!!

This is the bird that was outside a window - I think it was called a BLACK CAP:

Typical rosebush seen absolutely everywhere!

Inside a friend's house - an antique washing machine that is still in use:

Because it was such a nice day, my friend Jenesta and I decided to visit an Alm's House. She, who has lived here all her life, had never gone and seen it in Glastonbury:

I tell you, the entrance is not obvious from the street...you have to be looking for the entranceway to find it. Here I am just in from the street - left it sideways on purpose:

THE CHAPEL IS BEHIND ME AND THIS IS THE GARDEN WITH THE ROOMS OFF TO THE RIGHT:

THIS SELF GUIDE MENTIONS THAT A FAMILY GAVE FOOD THRU A WINDOW:

The garden right in front of the rooms:

This is the secret garden at the end of the pathway:

Inside one of the rooms that has been furnished as they imagine it would have been at the time:

And this is the tiny crevasse inside the fireplace where salt (very valuable at the time) was most likely stored:

Beds were upstairs and there were no showers or bathrooms????

House next door where the neighbors helped the men in the almshouse:

The Catholic church next door to the house:

Glastonbury is full of surprises.....like the tor.....like the abbey.....and there is history on every corner.

Rex's half brother is nothing like him at all.....not close to as friendly, barks at anyone walking by (whereas Rex welcomes the whole world LOL) but he sure looks at you just like Rex does. Their eyes tell lots of stories!
