Your neck of the "woods" is a rather dry place. But the forecasters are saying a strong El Nino is coming. Maybe we're seeing the beginning. The water temp in San Diego is 74 and it has been an unusually humid month with rain.

I have my fingers crossed for you BCS folks, so far the hurricane season hasn't been bad, so far, another month or so to go.

We're already getting ready for our departure to Mulege next month for our winter stay on the bay. Some rainy weather will really make the place green and pretty.

I posted a report from wunderground about 3-4 days ago that there was a double anomaly of two very potent lows, one on the eastern edge of the Mexican mainland and another south of Cabo, and tracking suggested a possibility of them merging NOW, this weekend, over central Baja and SoKal, bringing excessive moisture to each, and into AZ and NM as well.

A resident expert informed me ''It always rains in Mulegé in the summer". Geez, I didn't know that. Git'cher brollies out.

From national Hurricane Center this morning:

"Showers and thunderstorms have become a little more concentrated
near an area of low pressure located about 300 miles south-
southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.
However, the low does not appear to have a well-defined center
of circulation at this time. Environmental conditions are conducive
for development during the next day or so while this system moves
north-northwestward at around 10 mph. After that time, colder water
and strong upper-level winds should prevent tropical cyclone
formation. Regardless of development, moisture from this system is
expected to produce heavy rains across portions of the Baja
California peninsula and northwestern mainland Mexico through early
next week, possibly resulting in life-threatening flash floods and
mudslides."

Mulege, 12:30pm Saturday
Heavy rains all night, thunder, lightning, moderate rain at daybreak and stopped at10am. Blue skys with some clouds currently. Town roads have the usual mud. No flooding in town. Reports that there are wash outs on the highway, not confirmed.
Internet was off from at least 5am until just now.
Nothing to worry about, just a welcome cooling rain.

Highway was closed, but is now open, however there is still standing water in the low areas of the highway.

Shari that graphic says rain for the next 10 days?

3 inches of heavy rain this morning in Nopolo, mostly between 4-5 am., and that makes it just over 5 inches in about a week.

Oh geeze....OK, travel plans cancelled so I can be here to mop up! So much for our "it almost never rains in Asuncion" lament...looks like we will get a whack of it all week....it may feel like home...Tofino BC! Wish I'd have hung on to my wellies and sou'wester!

The weather models have increased the strength of this tropical disturbance recently.

Lots more green blobs on this GFS model link than there was 12 hours ago, all over Baja and Socal.

This one will not have the winds of a tightly wound system, but it looks to have moisture to spare.

http://www.atmos.washington.edu/~ovens/loops/wxloop.cgi?gfs_...

If I were down there, I'd treat it like a named system, a slow moving one and take all precautions. It will likely do a number to the desert SW US too.
