Interesting piece by Mike Dunne, a wine reporter, regarding a group making tequila just outside of the official appellation area in Mexico here.

What is this fascination with tequila? I have tried quite a few, and only liked a couple that cost like $500 usd per liter. The overwhelming majority of tequila is really crappy stuff, not worth drinking. There are so many better liquors, and so many other liquors where the premium liquors can be had for lower relative cost.
And don't get me started on the margarita, it's a crappy sugary drink, and like all sugary drinks, they all taste good because it's just a bunch of sugar,... But no one in their right mind in this day and age still drinks sugar drinks,...

I rarely post and seldom agree with Sr. Goat, but on this subject I agree totally. Any good vodka or a Pacifico are my choices. My wife disagrees, however, preferring a margarita.

After taking my meds and reviewing my comments towards mtgoat666 I removed my unfavorable post. Among my years resolutions were trying to be kind to others and try to keep my foot out of my big mouth:o

Hooker,

.....So....According to Goat, one more piece of evidence that your wife is not in her "right mind".....

Put her and Goat in a room and see who walks out....

I tended to not like tequila straight very much (popular less expensive brands) but always liked a real margarita.
A few years ago i was introduced to Don Julio Reposada and it changed my attitude. I sip the Don Julio and use lesser tequilas for margs.....

Don Julio has replaced my last favourite, Jamison's Irish whiskey....

Udo,
Not yet....tequila prices in Canada are nuts ($82 for Don Julio)....so I sip judiciously....and await my return to Baja for more frequent enjoyment...:saint:

Tequila makes me wanna barf. The only reason ol' timey Mexicans developed the stuff is they didn't have asphalt to distill at the time.

1942, moto, sells for $79-$86 USD, (COSTCO, in Ensenada, and Liqores Don Pisto in Rosarito and Puerto Nuevo, respectively).

It sips well, but I add just two drops of Mexican key limes to a shooter ˝ full. Just another level!

Sorry...perhaps I should not have said I'll stay out of this post.

But TEQUILA is in my avatar!

Just download
Tequila Matchmaker

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tastetequi...

It is a great way to find out who makes what tequila utilizing the NOM number.

I don't think that the software is in business any more. I tried to download it and my browser said it could not be found.
