Changes in Penny's Life
To all of Penny’s friends and supporters of her grandpas, some changes are coming soon. Penny will respond to this, but to write it all is just
emotionally overwhelming for her right now. She would write to each of you separately, but just cannot do that right now. A few of you will hear
from her very soon --- call this the ice-breaker. One cannot imagine how difficult this is for her.
It has been a little over 10 months since she lost her Murray. It has been a very difficult time for her. However, several of you have brought
smiles to her when you visit her and her grandpas. And for all of you who have assisted her and her grandpas, she has often been overwhelmed by your
kindness. I don’t know if any of you will ever know how much she loves and appreciates you --- and those who have visited, know that she always has a
big hug for you.
It has been a real struggle emotionally, physically, and financially for Penny to decide how to proceed with her future. She has family in Oregon
including an elderly mother who needs her. And of course, the grandpas are also now her family. While she is one who puts everyone else in first
place, she is facing some serious health issues which cannot be ignored. The decision comes only after months of soul-searching. She has even had
concern over her supporters and friends understanding. She is concerned that she may be letting some people down. Well, if someone does not
understand, well I won’t repeat what I say about that, but you can fill in the blanks. Besides, I know you all will understand. However, it is
important to her to explain and reach out to all of you.
Here is her basic plan for now, and of course, things can and do change depending on health and all. She hopes to spend a couple of months at a
time in Oregon with family and then a month in Baja with her grandpa family. The home in Baja she rents is on the market, but the landlord has agreed
to allow her to stay until it sells. After that time, she will be living in Oregon but hopes to return for a month at a time and stay at the
Grandpa’s home. She will still be working to support her grandpa’s; she just won’t be there all the time.
She and I hope so very much that those of you who stop by the grandpa’s home to visit and deliver funds and goods will continue to do so. Many of you
need no encouragement as some of you have said it was the highlight of your Baja trip. And for those who have been donating funds on a regular basis,
I hope that will also continue and you can work out all details with Penny. So much good has come from those donations and I understand more big
things are happening soon! You will personally hear from her very soon.
Again, I write this for my friend as it is important to her to communicate with all of you because many of you have been so supportive and have become
friends. And may it all continue.
And from me, please keep Penny and her health in all your prayers and thoughts. She gives so much and is just a very special person. She has made
such a difference for so many.
Thanks

Thanks for posting this. Good reminder of what they tell you on airplanes: put on your own oxygen mask first, before helping others around you.
Penny is lucky to have you explain these circumstances- please keep encouraging her to take a break from her hard work and manage her own well-being.
(I had to do the same with my mom when she nearly died herself, while caring for her mother for nearly 20 years.)
Having watched older adults in my family care for even older adults, well... it is exhausting. I can't imagine doing this work for a whole household!
So.... thank you for being a good friend and keeping us informed.

Tell Penny not to worry - that will only wear on her health. She has a good plan. Things will fall into place. Don't worry.
There's a lot of land around the home - can some of it be used for fruit trees, a large community garden? Might help in the long run.

I know it has been hard to deal with your elderly mom, Penny. and you must stay healthy!
We surely will all continue to support the grandpa's and if you could always give us an update when you are down there - that would be awesome!

I am glad some got to meet Murray. He was also a really good person!
One of the projects has included a garden. Murray owned so many tools and was an expert with all of them. But one of my favorite pictures of him is
him helping to build the garden using a machete because one of the elderly men told him that was the way to do it!
There have been so many positive changes, thanks to Penny and all those who have helped, and I am sure she will keep everyone updated!

I have been following this from the beginning, and must say that Penny and Murray have touched my heart
but the question I have now is what is going to happen with the grandpa's
any plans as of yet?

Penny is not stopping leading the way, she just won't be able to be there as much, but she will be in constant communication.
Of course we hope that all the help that has come from here and TalkBaja will continue whether she is there or not because it makes a MAJOR difference
in the quality of life for the men.
Also, through her efforts, there are now more locals organizations that are helping and visiting church groups etc., Things like a local berry farm
that donated great kitchen cabinets and winter clothing, local groups that come with food and cook, local heath care, groups that do haircuts and
manicures, and on and on. One church group brought beds.
So while there are never any guarantees, we hope it will all continue now that everyone is aware of the needs.
So please carry on with all help. People from Nomads and Talk Baja have made an unbelievable difference.
Trust me, this has been so difficult for Penny. She loves those men and they love her back!
Thank you for asking that question.

Penny,
Right now your health is the most important thing and I know your mama and grandpas all agree on that! You are not capable of deserting anyone or
stopping loving and caring for others. But right now, you and your health have to come first! Remember the Lucy sticker you sent me ---- yup, she is
back.
I know that all of your friends and supporters MORE than understand this and will continue to be there for you and your Grandpas. You have a real fan
club who love and adore you and all for good reason!
And so many know that your grandpas are also very special.
