San Ysidro southbound detour, any info?
A post on another thread said that construction after you cross the border southbound at San Ysidro results in a detour through TJ if you're headed
west to the toll road.
Please post any info here. Thanks.

yeah its kind of a mess bothways, going north I would suggest taking 2nd street all the way. southbound with international closed you have to take
the far left option (centro) and not the road to otay, it brings you right back to international headed to the playa's. good luck!
on edit....the good news is once you're there, less than a half hour in the regular lanes, 10am

Thanks, a southbound detour via centro that I'll figure out when I get there and second street all the way northbound. Right?

They are building a new bridge over the Tijuana River canal from the border to downtown.
It's all part of the new road that will come parallel to the border from the airport.
A well informed Baja California traveler is a smart Baja California traveler!

Here is my original post from the other thread:
On Monday morning I saw an electronic sign that said the C. Internacional (the road that goes along the border to the beginning of the toll road) is
closed and directs traffic to the Zona Río and Paseo de los Heroes. This means staying in the two left lanes after clearing customs. Watch for the
overhead sign before the second roundabout and follow the old highway to Rosarito. There's a final hitch where the old highway intersects the toll
road. The normal southbound on ramp is closed due to bridge construction. It's necessary to make a funky U-turn before the stoplight and then the
first right into the southbound on ramp.
An alternative is to follow the Centro sign after clearing custom (again the two left lanes) and then use Third Street and then Second Street to go
over the hill and on to Playas de Tijuana. Second and Third Streets are one-way in downtown Tijuana. Playas de Tijuana can also be accessed by using
the toll road from Rosarito.
The link above to the maps gives a very good visual of all the alternative routes. I would recommend using the Old Highway if going to Rosarito or
further south. Second and Third Street can be very congested.

I thought that I read a long time back that they were going to double deck Boulevard Internacional. Is this related?

I don't think they said they were going to "double-deck" the highway. I know they said they were going to build an "elevated highway", and in fact
they did. The new highway is in fact elevated over the old road, but not by much. The old road still there, underneath, and unusable. The construction
that went on a couple of years ago is in fact elevated, like a bridge, over the surface for much of the distance.
The construction that is going on now is at the eastern end of the highway right at the border entrance area where you go either to the border or Zona
Rio. It has been a bottleneck.

I believe the old road,thats nothing more than an alley now,is what is the east bound route, the new east bound lanes are now west bound lanes.

The first bridge over the river is closed, so you take the second bridge over the river. Once you get on the international road along the border
fence, you are actually traveling west in the two left lanes that normally have vehicle traffic heading east. The two right lanes that normally take
vehicles west towards Playas de Tijuana are closed for a mile or so, then you merge back over to the usual lanes just before going up the hill.

Today
Crossed southbound today at 2pm. Followed the "Centro" signs, got in the right lane, then took the Playas/Rosarito sharp right turn. Landed on the n/b
lanes of international which now have been converted to s/b......for about 2 miles, then it is back to normal...........really easy
