Fire Tree

One Johnny Appleseed from La Paz came down for some fire tree seeds but I have plenty left.

Here's yesterday's shot of the big one in bloom by my gate.

Where are you located? I would love to get seeds!

Is it a Delonix regia or something different?

Seeds sprout readily after being removed from the pod. Either cut through the tough seed coat with a file and soak in water for a day or simply put the seeds in a cup, pour boiling water over them, and 24 hours later they will be plump and ready to plant. They germinate in just a few days. Up here in the north (Central Coast of CA) I have 5 trees in a greenhouse, but even mild winters kill them outside. Seeds came from street trees in La Paz.

Harald, yes, it's a Delonix. Just get ahold of your German pal in El Centenario. I gave him enough for his place and to spread around among his pals.

Shari, I'll keep looking for Nomads going north by road and when I find somebody, they'll have seeds for you.

Delonix seeds really like scarification to germinate within weeks - other wise it might take years
