Hyperbaric chamber installed in BoLA

Just heard that there was a chamber installed at the clinic in Bahia. No trained staff to run it at this time, maybe in the future.

Is it really? There is no dive shop there, right?

I didn't know about Ricardo's Diving Tours:

https://www.facebook.com/ricardos.tours

I assume he has a compressor? Does he have rentals?

To service fishermen?

Seems a chamber is pretty low tech. Are they inexpensive?

Low tech? I guess the principle of recompressing someone could be considered low tech, just put that person into a pressure vessel, seal it up and pressurize it, but if that person has neurological problems I imagine that you would want a trained doctor on site and a trained staff to monitor the pressures and rate of ascent back to one atmosphere.
Chambers are very expensive and on top of that you have personnel on stand-by to help in an emergency. Maybe that will come in the future. In the 18 years I have been in Bola I only know of 3 dive accidents that could have been helped by having a chamber on site.

Hyperbaric chambers are used for treating symptoms other than the bends, but I can not imagine doctors sending patients to BOLA for treatment!

I imagine they have speakers in the chambers for communication, or elevator music. If I am ever stuck in one, I want to hear David Bowie's 'Under Pressure!'

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

For the local hookah divers gathering food off the bottom probably. I occasionally see them in Bahia Concepcion.

Great news! We have a very sophisticated chamber here in Asuncion that is very well used...mostly for medical treatment often diabetes related. Divers used to have to go 2.5 hours to Bahia Tortugas for decompression so as we have so many divers here for abalone, caracol, sea cucumbers and seaweed....it is fantastic to have our own chamber here.

Ricardo in Bay of LA is our favorite cousin and an excellent guide and does have a compressor to fill tanks. They are about to open a shop on the highway in town too. He is on the team of whale shark researchers so knows all about them and where they are!

One, if not two of la bocana's divers have gone there for treatment.

We are so happy in our town that one is available.
