Salvador - the dance kid in La Paz

Perhaps some of you remember the story of my middle school student who was driving me nuts? Impatient in class, very disruptive, bright but heading nowhere pretty fast?

and one day I asked him (in desperation): what is wrong? what do you want?

I want to dance. My life is dance, I dream about dancing, I want to dance.

Fine, I said. Do you have family in La Paz (a brother he said)

Please write to him and ask if you can spend the summer with him (this was in March or so). Please, also go online and find a studio that teaches dance and I will sponsor you for a week or so of dance. In exchange, I expect you to concentrate in class and do your hardest to learn English and the other subjects.

He changed from night to day and my teaching was so much more fun.

Salvador went and ended up living with his brother before the summer even came. He went to a dance festival and when someone from the school saw him, they invited him to join.

He loves dancing and has been invited to dance with a famous singer named Gloria Trevi - his mom told me this recently.

Today happens to be his birthday and here are some photos of the surprise party the dance studio put on for him:

In typical Mexican custom, he got his face shoved into the cake!

So.....he wrote to me a couple days ago because he now he has a chance to go to Mexico City and get his teaching credentials to teach dance anywhere in the country. Cost of airplane ticket, hotel, food, and the professional dance classes comes to $300.

Classes cost 3500 pesos and go from 9 am to 9 pm
flight around 1500 pesos - round trip
hotel and food 1000
week of Feb. 13-19, 2017

If you are interested in helping me sponsor him, cash can be deposited in any wells fargo in the U.S. or banamex here in Mexico. U2U for account number.

I am going to have him teach dance to kids here in La Bocana this December to "earn" this money!

Here is a shot he put together with the name of the university where the classes will be held on bottom left, dates on bottom right (Feb. 2017) . I can get more details is anyone wants to know more.

This kid is going places!

I got a $100....can I get some $50 donors? Come on amiguitos - this is a kid who was destined to be a druggie and pusher. He had nothing going for him and now the universe is conspiring to give him a viable future teaching dance.
