No problem here in La Paz. We just make a dash early in the AM to the market with our bullet proof vests on and hide out the rest of the day in the
basement. I suggest you best stay home in the safe confines of South Central.

You wont hear much here on Nomads..As I have said, people who are over invested are not going to talk about it, for fear their property values and
resale possibilities will diminish...Times have changed, it aint the same...Step up to it...

It's as safe as you want to believe it is. Just stay nestled in margaritaville, when the first gringo is kidnapped... then it's a new game

Yes crime has increased in Baja as it has in so many places in the world...yes meth associated crimes are up as they are all over the globe...yes most
of the murders are cartel related and dont affect tourists...unless you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But the most dangerous
thing by far in Baja are the gringos who drive waaaaay tooooo fast. The highway is far more dangerous than any violence that may occur.
No... I dont comment much on it as there is more than enough fear mongering in the media and social sites...and it rarely affects me personally here
in our little paradise off the beaten path. We still leave doors unlocked and havent had problems here. One of the villages known thieves who was sort
of banished from town just got killed in San Quintin last week...guess he ripped off the wrong person.
Yes times have changed...we only stop for people we know or are obviously in trouble now...I pay more attention to my surroundings and what's going on
but i still wouldnt trade living in Baja for anything! I still feel way safer here than in the United States!

I love Baja more than any place in the world....I have spent likely a third of my life there...BUT denying the problems does no one good..Better to
face up to them.

I agree with Shari. It's only an issue when you make it an issue. Try and score some mota from a stranger... you are in the wrong place.
I have heard gun fire while camping in santa rosallilita, have had dark planes land in Francisquito. Roll back over in my tent, fart, snore and wake
to fish another day. I have yet to read about violence against a tourist since the caca started in 2008.

My wife spoke with a local recently in Pesky. She was told 2 armed robberies had taken place in the area. I didn't ask for more info as I
don't care about the details. It might have happened against gringoes, or not. It's like parallel worlds.
If crime and violence scares you, there are lots of places you should avoid. Baja has its share of problems. Life goes on. Nobody I know in BCS
obsesses about this stuff. If it's printed media, it may be true or not. I think Baja MX appears more dangerous to those outside looking in.

I find it curious that you feel the need to toss these statistics into the circus tent and let the clowns have a field day with it.
Those stats speak for themselves and do not require validation from the liquor infused, alzheimer smoothed brains of the common circus clown.

Clowns having a field day? I love clowns. Nothing wrong with a little fun, eh?

Changes changes everywhere and we here down south are certainly no exception - for sure the big issue is drugs - and that is a very ugly scene.
As far as I know, here in our village, there has been one homicide ever and it involved poaching, not drugs. That is not a bad statistic!

Difficult answer to this one. There are crime stats which you can assume are getting most of the crime, but probably a lot more than actually
reported. Maybe I am reading too much news (fake news?) about the crime in Baja, but it is without a doubt a lot worse right now than in recent
memory.
In the past year I have been victim of a few weird situations in which nothing bad happened, but was not entirely enjoyable either. That is all I can
base it from. Also the few friends I have which have been born and raised in various towns through Baja. All of them agree there is a lot of
corruption within the government, meth use is increasing exponentially, and there is more gang violence. None seem too concerned about being caught in
the crossfire, so go figure.
In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for
you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in gods name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the
future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?
