Eastern Sierra Photos

All last week we base-camped at Mammoth Lakes, then mountain biked, wandered, explored, and hiked. The Eastern Sierras are water-rich, with full, happy creeks and lakes. Here's 2% of the photos I shot:

Very full Horseshoe Lake inundating pines:

Saddlebag Lake Resort says it may open in August. Saddlebag Lake in the background, mostly frozen. The resort is at 10,000'.

The Tuolumne River is full and happy:

Tuolumne Meadows:

Sun cupping near the Mammoth Mountain ski resort:

Yes, there is skiing and snowboarding at Mammoth Mountain, but snow below 10,000' is disappearing quickly. The mountain plans to be open for winter sports until mid-August. We love mtb riding the MM bike park, but the top/steep/fun stuff was closed to bikes due to snow.

A few days ago, a friend borrowed my action cam and shot this (hint: he briefly tops out at 55mph):

Spring arrives at 9500':

On our way to Laurel Lakes, we were stopped by some snow at ~10,000'. It appeared to be an old avalanche with lots of tree debris. Small pines down slope were semi-pushed over.

On top of Pothole Dome, looking at Cathedral Peak:

Wandering around the Dunderberg Mill area:

Good to see all that snow! I haven't been to this area, but maybe I need to add it to my road trip route...so many places to visit in our great country :)

Yes! I think it's cute that they believe they're going to open this season.

They'll open in Aug and close in Sept!!!! :-)
That place was up for sale a couple years ago.
Great area. Most of the camp grounds in MM were closed until just recently.
OH Ridge at June lake was open but FULL.
