San Felipe buildup...
saw MUCH construction activity in the area north of town...both on the beach and inland from the highway....signs with pictures of beach
condos....housing tracts...roads...in a few years those old campos on the beach will be gone ....

You're sure right about that Surfer Jim. And in reality, many of the campos south of town have been sold and are being up-scaled. It'll be filled al
the way to Puertocitos on of these years. Like Pampano says about that area - I'll be in my last sleep before it all happens but I want to see as
much as I can before the changes. Viva la back roads!!!

Golf course is set to open in early april. Residents only first few days, then open to the general public about the 7th if I remember right. It's
looking pretty good from what I can see from the roads?? We'll see how it all goes,

San Felipe Development
Pertaining to the golf course, I had a meeting with some of the El Dorado people in December and they are running a bit behind schedule. Seems some of
the "grass" is having a hard time growing in the desert. I saw a couple holes and they were sporadically covered. A couple other holes were about 75%
covered, but thinly. I'd bet it's not open until May sometime....

We flew over the golf course last fri lo and slo
while testing radios for team DP Racing during the SF 250 race weekend and you could see a sea of green, looked really good, faiways etc. If they're
using sea grass that likes salt water it should be fine, no?
BTW - TED - you should have a race team rep on the show some time, discuss the in and outs of baja desert racing.

If you want a bikers perspective I suggest Tim Morton, the class 21 winner at the SF250 and does off road bike tours (Bajabound). If you want a team
managers perspective I suggest George Thompson, Team Hummer. Although George would probably give you a million reasons why not to race in Mexico. Team
Hummer only races the 1000 in Baja because the sponsors make them do it as part of the contract.

Things to come!
AAA map from 2030:
City of San Felipe w/suburbs of El Dorado & Estrella. Control has migrated from Mexicali to San Felipe. 4 lane highway from Mexicali to San Felipe -
busy.
Town of Puertecitos w/ communities of Percebu, Santa Maria, & Coloradito. Control has migrated from Ensenada to San Felipe.
Campos are gone. The Patrons have sold out to the corporations. Everyone has power & water. Steve at Solar Express went out of business. Local
wells/aquifers unable to keep up with demand - expensive water system in place.
Waters fished out. Shrimp scarce at $50 a kilo. San Felipe's main source of income are the giant casinos & tourism. Crime always on increase. Walmart
& HomeDepot opened stores.
The road is now paved to Gonzaga with Pemex stations & AM/PM's. Traffic is horrible. Prices sky high. Taxes sky high.

When I was going to ZOO road I took some turnoff from the highway that was a brand new road....it had some "towers" built out of wood about 50 yards
off the highway...was this part of the golfcourse?....

The new road you took is to take non Eldorado traffic off of the old Zoo road which runs thru a residential area. The towers are part of the security
for the area. Manned 24/7 keeping track of what's happening in the area. When I had a fire in Oct they called it in th their own fire dept as well
as the San Felipe Bomberos and some security staff was here within 2 min. Helped me move stuff etc, Their fire truck here within 8=10 min. Glad to
have them.
The Golf course is on the east side of Hghy 5.

Was down to the Beach Club at El Dorado today and they told me that the Apr 1st opening is on schedule. Can see some pretty nice green in some areas
and a bit sparce in others.

Zoo Road
Now, I remember the 'San Felipe Zoo' about 20 years ago (situated across Mex. 5 from the old cut-off road... that wiggled over to the original
Ensenada-San Felipe road, before road graders came on the scene)... But, has the use of this name confused any of the new folks? Like anybody today
wonder where the San Felipe Zoo is/was?
San Felipe Zoo was a name (probably)invented by off road racers for the place that sold wood carvings (of animals) along Mex. 5. situated across from
the cut off road.
At least that was my recollection?!

David K, I wasn't around to see the "zoo" but I have always heard the same story as you gave about how it got the name. Actually the correct name is
Saltito road, but most everybody knows it as Zoo road because of the racers.
Jesse, I am totally amazed at how much money is pouring into the San Felipe area. Numerous quarter million dollar homes are being built, not just at
El Dorado but all oved the place. The development is not restricted to the beach. Several developments are happening between town and the Sierra San
Felipe. My guiding philosophy is not to invest more than you can afford to walk away from. Some of these people must have a lot of spare change in
their pockets.
An outing at the new golf course will only cost you $80 us. The average mexican laborer could play once a week and still have 300 or 400 pesos left to
live on.

Zoo rd. I heard about the same thing as David and Rob. Except that someone thought the would help out with the sale of the carved figures and put
up a sign "San Felipe Zoo".
The road thru El Dorado development is not the origional road from Hghy5 to Valle Chico. That road apears on Mexico Topo maps and left 5 about 1/4
mile North of the present rd. The sign for this road read "Col Morelia" and "El Saltito Sp." So the name Saltito Road was born. I have asked locals
where is and what is El Saltito Sp. and they didn't know. I have seen one sign in Valle Chico "El Saltito" a few years ago, positioned so I had to be
going North to see it. Havent been North on that road lately to see if it's still there.
When El Dorado was going to do some improvements on the road we have been using, they had to go to Mexico City and straighten out the location before
proceeding. Development had covered much of the old road that was on Mexico's records.
