High school student help needed, Feb. 23 GOAL REACHED
Hi all,
I just stopped by the high school to get an update on the seniors I will be sponsoring in college when they pass their entrance exams and found out
that we have some needs.
Neither Dulce (wants to study medicine) nor Julian (wants marine biology) have been able to come up with their last tuition of 800 pesos each ($45).
Dulce $45
Julian $45
Six of them need to pay 1500 pesos ($83 dollars) for their graduation documents which includes final grades and special awards they will receive.
Diana $83
Dulce $83
Edgar $83
Julian $83
Lizeth $83
Rogelio $83
I could really use some help with these expenses, amiguitos!
So many asked and I finally got paypal but they do take a chunk out. The email for that is portella.blanca@gmail.com
The absolute best way for me is ZELLE, which most banks now offer free to customers and the email for that is the same one: portella.blanca@gmail.com
Thanks everyone, we are making it a great day together.

Here is some background on these amazingly smart kids.
Last report card for Diana. 10=A+ 9=A
Last honor roll, overall GPA 99% Rogelio
Honor roll Lizeth - overall GPA 99%
I created a monthly evaluation which a different teacher fills out on each student all year long. All items must be 100%. If anything is not 100,
first time gets a warning and the second time means the student is out of the project for college sponsorship. I once dropped two students on the
spot. One left campus without permission and the other sassed a teacher back.
I have each student write about themselves.
Julian's story:
Here is a shot of Dulce at the last Christmas party I threw for the kids. She got a beautiful California t-shirt, as well as more clothes, tons of
school supplies (thanks Nomads!) and practical items like laundry soap to keep monthly expenses down. Dulce wants to become a doctor and if she
passes the exam, she will be studying in Tijuana.
To her right is Michelle who is studying economics/finance in TJ. She just started her second semester and is so happy and so grateful. Not a week
goes by that she does not send me a note on how grateful she is for this opportunity.
Thanks everyone for accompanying me on this incredible journey.

$25 or $50 to change a life forever. How often do you have a chance to make a difference in a life.

Isn't PayPal friends and family free of any fee's? I'm good for $100.00, not sure what Zelle is or how to use it? Let me know if PayPal has changed,
that would be easier if there aren't any fees.

I just installed BofA phone app, it uses Zelle for fund transfers. I need it to get paid for future SAT proctoring. I think it's some kind of PayPal
clone or something. Still a little hazy on the issue.
Okay, I think I just sent her some money. Hopefully.

Friends and Family to Blanca's Paypal was not an option. I think because her email is tied to a Peso account, so she loses a bit on conversion rates.

Wow! Thanks everyone and I have answered your u2u BajaMama
Rossman - correct, my account here in Mexico is a peso account.
Zelle is really easy and there is no charge that I know of, either to sender or recipient
If anyone lives near a wells fargo, the account is checking and to avoid money laundering, only checks can be deposited:

Zelle is a free payment system that many banks are using now.
I like it because your banking information remains private and one only needs an email to send funds. I believe Wells Fargo does it for free. Me
likes that a lot! I want every penny to go to the kids. Believe it or not, Wells Fargo does not charge me monthly fees since the account is only
used for the scholarship project. My Mexican bank does not charge me monthly fees because I am a teacher. Every penny counts for the kids!

It's probably part of the WF banking app, if you use your phone. I sent her money from my phone app.

I use US Bank. They have Zelle as well. It works seamlessly.

I have Capital One, which theoretically supports Zelle, although I haven't found any obvious way to use it from my mobile app. I've asked for help
from their support site.

I have B of A, and the "transfer/send" link takes me to Zelle. I have never used it on the app but I could...Anyhow, many the same on capital1?

I went to my Wells Fargo branch in Anchorage last year to transfer funds to the account number that Blanca gave me (San Diego branch?). I was not
able to use Zelle with a direct transfer from my checking or savings, they wanted a paper check!
I did not have one with me, so at no extra charge they printed out one with my account info, which I signed and used for the transfer!
I am a little confused that funds can be transferred using a phone app, but not my online account access. Or did I get that wrong?

As it turns out, one needs Capital One 360 Checking to use Zelle from their mobile app. I have a VISA account and therefore can't send $ to Zelle that
way, but it looks like there are some more options.

I got the money Chuck! Stan also sent some!! We are so close to the end !!!
The tuition was paid for Dulce and Julian and I have copies of the receipts to post as soon as I can.
Thanks everyone. Have a super duper weekend. Wow, I am truly moved by this. Ever so grateful.
I met with the kids today and they are so so sooooooooooo happy! they all send their thanks right along with mine. I had one of their teachers
fill out the monthly evaluations, they all got 100s on timeliness, school spirit, cooperation, attendance. He said that Dulce talks too much in
class so I put her on probation and will check back in a week. Julian used to do this with his girlfriend but now sits way far away from her. Her
dad can pay for her college, his can't!
