Mulegé fire truck

FIRE TRUCK DONATION

The Rio Vista Rotary Club and the West Sacramento Centennial Rotary Club have generously donated and are delivering a fire truck to the Mulege Bomberos. Their generous donation is a big boost to the local fire department, whose equipment is in sore need of an upgrade. You may also know that Mulege Rotary is the sole source of support for them. They receive no government funding.

Rotary and Vagabundos Member Katherine Van Diest helped organize and collect donations for gas, insurance, border crossing paperwork and flying the driver and co-driver home from Mexico. Vagabundos was happy to donate to the Rio Vista Rotary for this project. Vagabundos insurance agents Shawna Newcomb and Michelle Ralston were invited to the February 7th Rotary meeting and farewell breakfast for the fire truck.

The drivers spent two weeks in Tijuana importing the fire truck and on February 22nd the fire truck entered Mexico. The truck was presented to firefighters on Wednesday, February 26 at 6 pm at the fire department in Mulege.

Gotta say, the fireman from the US who frequent Baja, always put in a good word for baja firestation donations. In El Rosario they are front and center when you pass the Pemex, Mulege also has been a good recipient of perfectly good equipment. Many thanks to all the people who consider Baja for these types of exchanges. That truck would probably be junked and scrapped due to politically correctness and should absolutly be recycled / reused for many years by bretheren in need
