California Poppies

Yesterday we visited the poppies in the California high desert, west of Lancaster and south of 138. While we have seen more spectacular blooms, this one was still impressive, a sensory overload.

Wonder if the last week of rain will prompt a bloom.

Hey SS, can you drop a GPS or two? I'd love to check it out first hand.

Btw, that is sooo badass.

We were east and north of the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. The Reserve is currently closed and The Man is on the highway to keep you honest.

You can get to the non-Reserve/BLM area by taking the 14 to Lancaster, exit Ave I (eye) and head west about 8.2 miles to a powerline crossing at 105th St W here. Turn north/right and begin wandering -- we used the powerline road to head farther north before heading west, basically circumnavigating the Reserve anti-clockwise. Wandering in a 2 wheel drive car will greatly limit where you can go, but legs always work.
