Loreto, should we go?
Question for the Nomad Family. We have an annual Labor Day Weekend fish trip to Loreto. I was hoping for advise on if it is a good idea to go. Do
the people of Loreto want outsiders coming in to town with the Covid thing going on. I have spoke to the Panguero who is taking us fishing and he
explained that some places are open and that he can take us fishing. I just dont want to be the Ugly American that comes to town if the residents of
Loreto are trying to keep things at a minimum for exposure.. They probably need the pesos but I was curious. Bill Erhart, Loretena, La Tijereta or
any Loreto people? Your thoughts.

Mexico announced that the "non-essential" travel ban has been extended to Sept. 21, so I hope you have property that needs checking in Baja... Just in
case they enforce that (again) on the days you are driving south.
The U.S. has matched Mexico with the dates:

You might want to read this thread first. There seem to be a LOT of restrictions in Loreto for fishing.

why don't you let Baja recover from C19 and come when everything is clean - besides, you are potentially bringing C19 from the US. If you think it is
all a hoax, then of course - don't pay attention to me.
Hospitals in BCS have just reached maximum capacity.

Thanks Everyone, especially 4X4abc. That is what I was thinking, it is just hard to say no to Baja sometimes. Always good to get feedback to help
with decisions. We will postpone our trip until things are better.
It is the right decision. Everyone stay safe and cool.

Today, from Discover Baja Travel Club:
Road Conditions
UPDATED August 19, 2020:
Hurricane Genevieve has intensified to a category 4 and there is a Tropical Storm Watch Warning in place for Baja California Sur. While the hurricane
is not expected to make landfall in Baja, expect hurricane conditions with heavy rains and strong winds (40 mph or greater). The storm is currently
expected to hit the area late Wednesday through Thursday. You can read the latest updates with more specific information about Hurricane Genevieve on
The Weather Channel.
COVID-19 AND LIMITS ON NON-ESSENTIAL ACTIVITY
As Mexico begins to reopen, the country has started using a national “stoplight” system to begin reintroducing non-essential activity region by
region as deemed safe. The stoplight designations are reassessed and updated on a weekly basis. For the week of Aug 16th-Aug 22nd, the state of Baja
California Sur is rated “orange” and hotels, restaurants, beaches will be operating at 30% capacity. Specific rules vary from municipality to
municipality. The state of Baja California (norte) is rated “red,” closed to non-essential activities. The waters of Northern Baja are open to
private vessels, which includes fishing at the Coronado Islands.
BORDER CROSSINGS
The U.S.-Mexico land borders are temporarily restricting non-essential travel until at least September 21, 2020. U.S. citizens and permanent citizens
will still be allowed back into the U.S. from Mexico during this time. We have heard multiple stories about Canadians being allowed to cross into the
U.S. from Mexico as well.
Some of the California/Baja land borders are currently operating on reduced hours:
San Ysidro: open 24 hours
(PedWest is closed but PedEast remains open 24 hours)
Otay Mesa: open 24 hours
Tecate: 5am-2pm daily
Calexico West: open 24 hours
Calexico East: open 6am-2pm
Andrade: open 6am-2pm
CHECKPOINTS
While Highway Mexico 1 is open for through travel, certain towns along the peninsula have closed access for non-residents. They are stopping all
southbound cars entering Ensenada, so expect delays. Travelers who are not residents of Ensenada (or farther south along the peninsula) may be turned
around. Highway Mexico 5 is open and now completely paved. Residents or homeowners in Baja should carry current proof of residency (a current utility
bill or fideicomiso).
RESOURCES AND ASSISTANCE

I heard that hotels and tour operators are limited to 30% capacity by govt decree from DF.
so, assuming businesses are complying, reserve early, as capacity should be 30% of normal. i doubt that travel has recovered to 30% of normal -- when
will travel recover to >30% of pre-trump-disease levels?

Jizzy,
Once again you demonstrate your inability to understand how things work....when not designed for your immediate gratification.
Any income I receive from the government is entitled to ALL Canadians over age of 60.....and are from contributions made by me throughout my 45 years
of gainful employment.
Maybe our government has a better system than yours....
Maybe you could educate yourself before jumping to your false accusations between asking Nomads where you should go for your next getaway, how to
get there, where to eat, sightsee, and the usual parasitic questions you dump on the forum.
And I don't know where you get this " hoping for a failing economy" thing comes from..... sounds kinda made-up....
Even DK kinda suggests going to Baja these days isn't essential (although the message is buried in a lot of mumbo jumbo .....probably too long for you
to read).....
But, as your hero says, "It is what it is".....and I say "you are what you are"...

You have posted on here many times that you don't care about the economy collapse and all the harmful things that does to many millions. Because you
are comfy in your house on the gov teet.
Awful human being in my book.
Just stop stalking me you weirdo. You quote 9 of 10 posts I make on here. Are you actually a grown man?

Same here. I really used to enjoy contributing and swapping cool Baja lore, travel tips and all those great photos. Not so much anymore.
And this does not in any way reflect on the owner of this site.

So, some nomads (ged, DK, JZ, others) sling some insults from time to time. (I mention DK because his political comments are insulting to some.).
Sad but true.
I don't know what you 2 want from this forum. The way it use to be? Do your feelings get hurt because nomads aren't getting along?
Stick around, and ignore the less than positive stuff. Don't read it, if it upsets you. Just move on. Maybe you're too sensitive for this
forum.
Check in less? The good stuff is here written by good people. To me, it's all worth it. And I like how Doug handles things here. Relax.
Keep letting go.

The problem is not many are going to Baja right now because of the damn virus.
But one solution is for you to contribute stories and pics of past travel.
