But it would fit !!!! Make America great again, ts, ts, ts, Trumpy is one of the dumbest. Because that includes , just as an example: Mexico. The
Americas stretching from the North tip of Canada to the South of Fireland.

There seems to be confusion between Continent and Country. There is no rule that a country can't use the continent's name, is there? Australia, for
example.
The USA was the first country in the Americas (1776) and the first and only country in the hemisphere to use America in its name.
I think those factors are enough to justify the use of American for people from the USA. There is no other country called America, as well.
Viva the USA!

You seem to be very white-man-focused in your understanding of history, and you forget that there were countries in the Americas long before European
imperialists landed in the Americas. Indigenous peoples lived in nation states that were countries in every sense of the word. Some of the bigger
nation states were the Incas and Aztecs. In fact every tribal entity exterminated by European imperialists was a political state or nation state
(country)
Woke!

will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.”

Mexico didn't become a country until 1821
Peru didn't become a country until 1821
Ecuador didn't become a country until 1821
If you hate the white man so much, there is always some shoe black to cover up your heritage.
I mean pull a Northam and be done with it.
Then you too can loot flat screens with impunity.

Did any of the Indian Nations have 'America' in their names? LOL, of course not (America is an Italian word). Indigenous tribes and an established
representative republic don't really fall into the same category but both exist here. The question was regarding the term 'Americans' for the citizens
of the United States of America (USA).

Why are the original governments of indigenous peoples not in same category? The usa goverment isnt much to hold up as special. Lots of better
examples out there.
Seems to be universal world-wide agreement that last 4 years of GOP/controlled govt has been a mistake (perhaps only putin, erdogan and that weird
north korean dude are fans of current usa admin, eh?

That’s one good way to look at it.
Another measure: incarceration rate.
And another measure: does immigration separate children from parents and put children in cages, and then never return 500+ children to parents because
they lost track of the parents they deported?
Woke!

The subject was "Government" ... not quality of life
And if quality of life is the subject which nation's Government and/or Governments to you choose as a replacement for our current system of Government
that is in place, at this time ... or is it a mix and match ?
An interesting concept ... any examples ?

A Rose by any other Name .........
........ Or, a Turd, would smell the same.
Since nothing is going to change and the name will remain the same, those who object to the use of "America" (including the
Abos) can babble on over their injustices and call themselves whatever they wish.

And you are under the impression that the way a country's government, which administers taxes, makes laws, deals with health care, education, etc,
etc., operates is irrelevant to quality of life?

Too bad you can't ask the 224,000 Americans who died of COVID whether their quality of life would have been better had they lived in New Zealand,
whose Prime Minister had the most intelligent and responsible approach to the pandemic of any country in the world by closing its borders, instituting
mandatory 14 day quarantine for any returning citizens, and mandating lockdowns and mask-wearing.

In all my travels, I have heard a wide range of terms used to describe citizens from the USA....
Some not so flattering or jingoistic....

You ought to hear how Americans and Mexicans refer to the Canadians.

David K: you forgot that in Australia, there are only living Australiens. In the Americas there are living Candians, Mexicans, Honduriacians(or such)
Clilees (or such). Argentiniacians (or such) Columbus and his brother (or such) etc. Most of the US citizens just don`t know that there is more than
the stretch from Maine to SoCa. Well, some know Baja!!!

To our crazy uncle.....(no, not the one in the WH):
I have heard from Mexicans throughout the Mexican mainland as well as Baja, that they often make a distinction between Canadians and USA
citizens....and they much prefer the civility and general demeanour of Canadians. They often do not consider Canadians "gringos", but sometimes lump
us together.
Even some Nomads have stated that they will describe themselves as Canadians rather than "Americans" when travelling abroad so as to try to dodge the
"ugly american" brand.
As Mr. Bill pointed out....we Canadians have earned and deserve such acceptance.....
And he is never wrong.....just ask him
Don't believe everything you think....
