Prayers for another Nomad; Roy, The Squarecircle
2020 continues to be the worst year for many if not most of us...
Our Baja traveling amigo Roy, ('The Squarecircle') is not well...
He has been hospitalized and is in a care facility recovering from kidney issues and other problems. TW reports he is not sounding good over the phone
and with Covid there is no visitation allowed.
Roy has always been a great Baja traveler and never afraid to go anywhere in his 4Runner or Land Rover. Before 2020, we did many trips with Roy. When
his lady friend, Blanche passed away, it was really hard on Roy. The past year he began to not respond as well and reaching him by phone was about
impossible. Both Doug (BajaNomad) and Josh (my stepson) went to check on Roy this past year and he appeared well. Then, about a month or so ago, he
was taken to the hospital. He was released but after a couple weeks was back.
Here are some photos of The Squarecircle, our amigo, Roy:

Roy may be best known as the first Nomad recorded to have driven up the La Turquesa Grade going from Hwy. 5 to Hwy. 1... with help from TW and others.
The full grade as seen from the turquoise mine. Photo from steekers.

Sad news. I've met him. But, not sure where or when. Maybe 2004 Presidents day Matomi run? Great guy....

The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.

Met him at a San Felipe get together just after his La Turquesa Grade drive. He was very proud of that accomplishment and told all who would listen
about it.

I believe we met Roy when he and a group with TMW were trekking the desert near us and had a big donation of school material for my high schoolers.
Maybe 2014?
Roy, I hope you pull through!

Nope... maybe at the Pyramid Resort Book event, he went to some of those and other meets like the Food event along the San Diego Harbor, perhaps? Oh
wait, you both were at El Rosario for Antonio's Cultural Festival, 2005:
Here are you both in the same photo, on our day tour trip:

I think it was 2016 when Roy and I did the No Wimp Trail we stopped by Blanca's place and Shari's. We also had a margarita with motoged at a house
near Shari's.

Dec. 1, 2012 @ Discover Baja Travel, San Diego
GET WELL ROY! I met Roy on the trail in Baja when I did a 4WD canyon run with Neal and Marian Johns and several others. I am looking for those
photos, but in the meantime, here are a few from Discover Baja when they hosted a book presentation and many of us showed up for David Kier.

Thanks Ken for adding more photos. The second one, with Roy and I, also has Nomads BAJACAT and fernweh (Karl).
Roy used to tell me about being on your earlier Pole Line Road trips... The one when a local drove up, maybe needing help. Said you guys were camping
right on the road so he couldn't get by?
