Los Amigos De Los Niños Mulegé (LADLN)
Here's the quick version of what I think is awesome about LADLN.
Mexico provides education through 9th grade, after that it's up to the parents.
The group targets underserved students from the outlying Mulege area and ranches.
Some of the ranches are so remote the students live in a government provided boarding facility and attend public school Monday – Friday.
They are supporting 73 students attending high school (CECyT) and college/university.
A donation of as little as $75 pays for a semester of high school, $150 for a year of high school and $600 for a year of college.
With the pandemic, LADLN won't be able to hold their fundraiser events this year, missing out on a major source of funding so they are relying on
donations and sales of donated items to fill the gap.

$150 per year might not seem like a lot for a year of high school but it's a lot to most working people down here. The opening bid on the boat is two
years of high school scholarships.

Very cool and what a wonderful idea to do an online auction.
Public school does go through 12th grade but it is not free, there are fees.
The high school fee this year in La Bocana was 800 pesos. I just paid for Lesly! That being said, the other costs are for notebooks, pens, paper and
more.

After 9th grade, you have to pay for high school in Mexico. The equivalent of $150 US per year.

it is in most government's interest to keep a large portion of the population poor. this is easily accomplished with controlling access to education.
look at the US, in regards to student loans and tuition costs. remember president spankys comment on "loving the poorly educated "?
when i returned from viet nam i was able to pay all university costs ,pay rent and have a car..based on the GI bill. today's veteran education
benefits are an insult to those who served. a symbolic gesture at best.

When I got back from VietNam in 1971 and went to ASU my GI Bill was $200/mo as a single man. Had to work to make ends meet and live a normal college
life. Today's vets get

This does not appear to me to be a slap in the face to today's vets. How much did you get per month from your GI Bill to allow you to do what you
said, i.e. pay for school, car, insurance, food, rent, gas?
Please enlighten us how you did that.

then look at how fast college education costs have risen - a 3000 % increase. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/average-cost-college-jumped-i...
factor in both of those, and you were rolling in cash, and single. todays recent veterans, particulalry with families - college is MUCH more
expensive. its financially a heck of a lot harder!
sometimes it makes sense to look at facts and figures, instead of puffing up your chest, breaking your arm patting yourself on the back, and then
denigrating those who have served their country since 9-11

Most young people do not have money for education.
The USA would be a better and more successful country if govt provided free college or trade school for all, instead of tax cuts for the rich!

Hey Gringo, yeah i do remember that. the boat auction, for a very worthy cause.
but since lobsterman decided he needed to hijack the thread and crow about how special he was, and what degenirates the "newer" vetrans were, i
figured it needed a reasoned factual response pointing out to him the errors in his statement.
I have made a donation to this organization as well as several others and completely support their causes.
what I do not support is some clown belittleing our veterans - i will always react strongly to that, and publically. lobsterman needs to be held
publically responsible for his diatribe!
