Amo Pescar (Michael Curtis) has passed away.

Long time Baja Nomad and Amigo de Baja, Amo Pescar died on August 27 in Oceanside following two weeks in the hospital fighting Covid.

Amo and I met at my first Viva Baja event in 2000 and soon he wanted to form a partnership to do tours. He bought a 4WD van and a camper and we did a couple of trial trips with Amigos de Baja as passengers. The 9-11-01 attack derailed plans for us. Amo attended Viva Baja Cactus in 2006, in Tijuana.

Later, Amo (Michael) worked the register at the Target in Oceanside where he grew such an impressive, white beard, he was a natural to play Santa Claus.

When he no longer worked there, we had communicated on Facebook and he shared the photos of himself in Christmas parades each year.

Adios Amo Pescar... It was great to know you!

I just reviewed my last message exchange with Amo Pescar and it was May 31 & June 1 of this year...

He asked if there was any news about Mary Ann Humfreville and ironically, he mentioned avoiding Covid: "Hi David hope all is well with you and the family. Happy we made it through the covid!"

Sad news. I hate death and have a hard time reconciling myself with it.

May he rest in peace.

For me, the worse part of getting old is seeing your friends passing on before you do. It is surreal.

I am very sorry to read this. He would ask about Mary Ann, that's the Amo I knew. The old Amigos de Baja crew is getting smaller on this side of the mirror. Rest In Peace my friend.

Amo and you met at my Shell Island & Matomí tour on President's Day weekend, 2001. The video by El Camote of all of us having fun is online... elgatoloco and Barb joined us, too.

Yep, I remember well. If I recall, the two of you were trying to get a tour business going. So many moons ago....

Here is the video of that President's Day/ Matomi Tour that many of us met each other at, made by El Camote: https://vimeo.com/206406826/a08c7cb808

The 4WD van and camper were purchased, we did the group trip to Cielito Lindo (for BBBB#1) an on to L.A. Bay. Then a second group trip to Guadalupe Canyon (BBBB#2)... Soon after, 9-11 (2001) happened. Amo (Michael) was really sure that would be a huge impact. His mom died not long after... and the wind was out of his sales.

El Camote made this video of that 4WD Van tour trip, incl. BBBB #1 (Boojum Buddies Baja Bash at Cielito Lindo). Neal Johns is featured too (R.I.P.): https://vimeo.com/user6170985

Here is my card that Amo made:

I have heard no news on Mary Ann. L.A.Bay is not talking but Nomads there are aware. The fear of what can happen there in the dark if night must be discomforting. The fear that locals have if they speak up seems obvious.
We all agree that 'bad stuff can happen anywhere'... We just wish it didn't happen in Baja!
