Rain in Southern Baja

First rain of the year spinning off Hurricane Celia. Very light winds with dark clouds covering mountains out over the Ocean. Power on in Pescadero/TS. Beautiful and cool after Blas threw some warm/Humid air at us last week. Summer is here.

Heard the San Jose harbor had some huge surf and the cape looked like a point break!

Cool photos RF & Harald.
===========================================================

Any photo on your computer can post to Baja Nomad.
The steps are not too hard (otherwise I couldn't do it)!

These instructions are in the top post on the Nomad Photo & Video Gallery forum...

To post photos from your Pictures folder on your computer:

1) Go to www.Postimages.org, make an album if you want to organize your photos to find them easily in the future (by date or by subject). No cost to use Postimages.org.

2) Change the upload setting from "Do not resize my image" to 640x480 (recommended for forums) or 800x600 (max. on Nomad). You click on the little arrow to see the size choices.

3) Click "Choose images" and select the photos you want to put on Nomad from your Pictures folder.

4) Click on the image you want on Nomad and click on "Share" at the top of the screen.

5) Choose "Hotlinks for forums" (down next to the last one). You can click the little box at the right end of the link and it is now saved on your mouse.

6) Go to Nomad and paste that link onto the place where you are typing on Nomad. You can put text in below the photo for a caption for your post and if you double space between photo links (for clarity), you can put several photos and captions in a single post on Nomad. You can click "Preview" on Nomad to check and see how it will look before posting to the board.

If you need to fix a post after it is done, click on "Edit" along the edge of your post, and change or delete your post. If you edit more than once, you can delete the previous Edited on tags so only one edit tag will appear after you edit the post.

I just edit pictures on my iPad and email them to myself email gives you a choice of sizes. Then I direct post them here after picking a size that works!

Whatever works... but your photo width is still wider than 800 pixels, so the Nomad page will stretch to match.

Images from other websites with the [img] tag can easily be edited by adding =800x in the tag, i.e. [img=800x] and now the photo will fit perfectly.

David,

My read for resolution here is 342K and 1600X1600!

When I was younger and Tim Leary was the Acid Guru there was a recipe floating around (paper as it was pre-internet) for making Acid from banana peels! It was very long, complicated and probably an urban legend. To my knowledge no one ever got it to work!

Most of the ordinary folks won’t follow 12 steps to post a picture when the won’t follow fewer steps to stop drinking themselves to death!

DK continues to give very bad advice about posting pics. You do not want to use PostImage to resize them. Yes, host them on Postimage. But do not resize them.

To have them display properly here, just use the command: img=800x

Resizing your photos hurts them when displaying on sites other than BNs.

You don't have to do a copy. Just use [img=800x]. It makes your pics display perfectly on BN without having to resize them.

Example:
[Img=800z]https://photo.jpg[/img]

Just change the 'z' to an 'x'.

This post has quickly deteriorated into DK talking pixels and how to post pics?! Maybe this is why myself and others don't peek in too often or post something. Started out OK but then...what happened?

Your thread got a beautiful pic from Harald.

It rained here in LA on Wednesday. A tiny bit in the AM and then again at 1pm.

It was super humid. Felt like Florida for a few minutes.

JZ, I have told you this before, but pre-selecting the 800 pixels on Postimages does exactly the same thing you are doing manually! My advice is the same as yours but I simply have the photo site add in the =800x instead of typing it with each photo. The quality is not reduced.

As with other times, I was responding with tools to help others. If adding photos was automatic, like Facebook, then there would be no need for any of us to help. I like seeing photos of Baja, don't you?

You are correct!
It has been a number of years since I last posted a photo here. After PHOTOBUCKET decided to sell its services to the users, I am in awe how DK posts photos here. I used postphotos a couple of times, but never quite got the hang of it.

Not everyone just posts on BN's. Doing it on Postimage reduces quality of photos you can post on other sites that have better photo management capabilities.
What those sites typically do is reduce the initial view of the photo. And they then let you zoom in 1 or 2 times to see all the photo details. This also let's people download high-res versions of the photo they can print or crop, or whatever.

Look, I'm not going to try to teach you something about drip irrigation. So, please trust me on photo's/video's ok?

And stop being so damn stubborn!

David, it looks like the content cell width on BN is 569px, so anything wider than that is going to force the page to stretch. 800 is a nice number, but it's totally arbitrary and doesn't avoid stretching the layout.

That works great, but is not very efficient (you're sending excess data into the user's browser and forcing it to dump a bunch as it resamples the image to display it at a lower resolution), but these days most people have lots of bandwidth and CPU so it mostly doesn't matter.

For most. People viewing this site over connections with a data quota or lower speed connection, DO end up paying for that convenient posting trick.

[Edited on 6-26-2022 by lencho]

The owner of this site (Doug) told us that 800 pixels was the width limit... I did not invent that. Interesting it is one of the automatic selections on photo hosting sites... 640 is the 'normal' photo size for forums but 800 is the maximum on Nomad... I also post the same way on Tacoma World forums... If bigger than 800, they have software that will shrink the photo to fit and allow you to click on it to see the original size.
