Hope Blanca & Les Are OK
Just saw on the news that a 7.8 earthquake hit southern Turkey this evening. Only thing I know about Turkey is that our Baja friends now live there
and that their town is located in, gulp, southern Turkey.
Hoping all is ok.

When I looked at a map of Southern Turkey, and saw where the quake was centered, it appears that the quake took place at least 300-400 miles east of
Blanca and Les' new home in Alanya.

S,
The US navy is making a port-call in Cabo after an 8 month overseas deployment. Worry about that not shooters in Cancun!

OH MY GOD what a night or rather early morning. Les and I happened to be chatting at 4ish when he asked me "Why are you shaking the bed?'
Immediately, I realized what was going on and said EARTHQUAKE.
It was such a quiet shake but the bed did not stop moving for a full minute. We did not feel the aftershocks. It was so strong that I thought of
tsunami. I also thought it was epicentered in Alanya.
Turned on the TV and the Turkish news was immediate and said the quake was to the East of us. Far but not that far!
The damage is extensive and our friends here have family to the East esp in a town called Adana. I hope and pray that their familes are OK.
Let it be known that I am NOT ready to die foks, I still have a lot of work to do...be safe and thanks for the concern. I slept until just now - 10
am.

How many miles away were you?
When they had the 7.1 in Barstow it felt like a wave 160 miles away.

Glad you are both safe and OK- the quake & aftershocks are devastating.
This will be a long-term recovery for the people who survived in the areas along the Anotolian fault lines.
Your description reminded me various earthquakes I've felt over the years:
- The Northridge quake/aftershock in 1992 made my bed in San Diego shake & woke me up early that Sunday morning
- The 7.1 Easter Sunday quake that hit Mexicali in 2010 caused furniture in my apartment to shake in San Diego for nearly 2 minutes. I knew it was
causing a lot of damage wherever the epicenter was focussed.
Both were 100+ miles away.
Both were memorable.
Thanks for the updates- stay well!

Yes, Lori, whew is right!
The rescue effort is huge and Alanya sent over 20 trucks filled to the brim with specific needs within 24 hours.
The custom here is to honk really loudly at cars traveling with just married couples, and yesterday thge trucks honked as they went by, on their way
to the cities affected.
