We had a thread a while back that beat this to death so, since you weren't here, I'll give you my two cents worth.
Tip for service. Pumping the gas which you bought isn't service. Washing your windshield is. I used to give five Ps but, I've upped it to a buck. Can't take it with me.
Maybe you just imagined embarrasment from the attendantess. I'm sure she appreciated your tip unless she owned the place.

When you work here and use your gas as an expense, you have to pay by credit card. We found a gas station where you pay in advance and pump it yourself. Never had a problem. No worries if you check the slip before you sign.

I was in Loreto about 6 months ago and start talking with the attendant at the Pemex in town. He told me he gets paid 120 pesos a day (8 hours) plus tips. I almost always tip 10 pesos and most of the time I don't let them wash my windshield because they want to climb onto the hood of the truck to try and reach it ....

The Chica at the Pemex as you enter Santa Rosalia from the north tried to rip me off for 100 pesos by starting the pump then stopping it at 100 pesos and then restarting it (without resetting it). After filling up she said I owed the amount on the pump plus the 100 pesos. I looked her directly in the eye and told her to go pound sand (not my exact words). I thought she was going to passout from embarassment, :o I've never seen anyone turn white as fast as she did.

Getting fuel is only one of the many things I love about the thrill of going to Baja

Works every time. You just have to be more huevon than them.

So the key is to be lazier than they are....

What do you say when they stop laughing?
