Done that for years here in AZ.

We can get an exact replacement, no duplicate stamp, for $4.

It is good to have even if you are traveling in the USA and flying. My wife's purse was stolen in Chicago and the extra DL that we stashed in another wallet came in handy when we had to get through security at the airport.

I don't have a throw away wallet, but I used to wear a throw away wedding ring. I would leave my real one stateside and wear a JC Penny/Sears cubic zirconia for Baja.

That's been my opinion, read a bit off an email off
some Baja Newsletter recently, which stated, right
or wrong that Mex Fed Hwy Cops can ask for Immigration
papers. Have heard of Military checkpoint Army ask
for a passport. I understand they are not authorizied to
ask either.However I would probably not be too comfortable
in telling a Hwy Cop or Mex Army guy what
I think he can and can't do
