We were in Pasadena, CA Saturday for a wedding that night so we posted up on the back terrace of the hotel with extra glasses and anyone who walked by
was offered a look. Had folks stop and take a gander and most of them had no idea. Some came back multiple times and went and tracked down friends and
family. Also had some of the employees stop by. Maybe 45-50 different people all together. We told them about April 2024 and how different an
experience a Total Solar Eclipse is from others.
In 1991 I had an offer from a customer in Kona to come over and go out on his 50' boat but opted for Baja. Two days before we were to head down my
girlfriend broke her leg and I cancelled my plans to head south. Customer in Kona piloted many miles offshore and never saw anything.
Took me ten years but I finally saw my first Total Eclipse in 2001 in Zambia. When is was over all I could think about was how to do that again. 2006
was north coast of Egypt. 2017 Casper, WY. 2019 Pangue Observatory, Chile. We will be watching in April from Killeen, TX in a friends backyard.
Weather permitting. 2027 we are booked for Luxor, Egypt.
The fact that those of us living in North America can drive to the one in April if we so choose is pretty cool. Next opportunity for that will be in
2044.

The 1991 Baja eclipse really inspired us
In August 2017 we drove up from Central Cal to camp out in the forest above John Day Oregon. (That was when I discovered the joys and advantages of
"disbursed camping" since we were in the National Forest.)
Remembering that the Baja event was nearly 7 minutes (which is just about maximum for eclipses) the Oregon event was about 3 minutes. For those brief
moments time just stands still and you get such a sense of peace and good.
Last Saturday the annular event was awesome, but totality is truly another world altogether.
Can't wait for next April in Texas,
Matt, maybe we can meet up down there or in Luxor in a few years and shoot up a few more rockets. (Private bit of history here folks)

I got permission to hit the road to New Mexico so off I went. I was hoping for Chaco Canyon but the Navajo Nation was closing sites like Four Corners
and Monument Valley so I watched the eclipse south west of Farmington on hwy 491. Wish I`d have gone to the monolith of Shiprock but I wanted center
line. 9 eclipses for me now, 6 total, 3 annular. Baja and Africa were my favorites.

And do not forget.....
Luxor, Egypt August 2, 2027 (my birthday)
Egypt is so much like Baja that it is hard to describe
And Luxor is the real deal
On my all-time top 10 list!!
Gotta do it!!!
Make your plans early, and a sail up the Nile to Aswan is essential!

So it is you that Carly Simon was singing about!

Ha! Me thinks you will have an easier time getting in and out with rockets in Texas as opposed to Egypt.............just sayin.

We have friends going there too. Also looked at the spot in Durango that will have totality the longest but the logistics for that were daunting.
Instead we will camp our way thru the southwest.

We never crossed paths (in person) in Baja. Maybe we will on the Nile!
