2026 could be the worst "El Nino" in 150 years!

According to a Co pilot search, the El Nino of 1877 was the worst climate disaster in recorded history;

So the climate/weather was worse 150 years ago?

Got it.

climate.us (formerly climate.gov) contains historical data for several climate-related metrics. They leave the interpretation up to scientists, and the policy-making up to politicians.

Perhaps you should hop on a plane to Europe and tell them how climate change and record high temperatures that cause people to die are no big deal because Baja survived just fine 150 years ago.

Tell us how many died 150 years ago from weather events vs. today?

"Far fewer people die from weather-related disasters today than they did 150 years ago, even though the world's population is much larger. This is one of the clearest long-term trends in disaster data.

Some of the main reasons are:

Better weather forecasting and early warning systems.

Stronger buildings and infrastructure.

Improved flood control and storm shelters.

Faster emergency response and evacuations.

Better healthcare and communications.

Greater food security, reducing deaths from drought-induced famines."

Europe needs to subsidize AC for people, and make cool spaces available to the at risk when the heat spikes. Just like Mamdani shouldn't have let dozens of homeless freeze to death when he ignored the two week forecast of freezing temps or Karen Bass ignored the advance forecast of Santa Ana winds during fire season before she decided to leave the country.

Giving governments trillions of dollars to make politicans rich and powerful isn't the answer. But you keep using your fake fear mongering over random weather events.

This is what Gates is telling you knuckle heads to focus on. Governments cannot change climate.

Giving governments trillions of dollars to make politicians rich and powerful isn't the answer.

Exactly, especially when they are using it to prevent global civilizations from doing what they can to reduce their contribution to global warming because they are telling us cheaper, cleaner energy sources and the advancing Engineering and Science behind it are all a "fraud".
We need to get people elected again that can do simple math and listen to the experts instead of inventing their own reality to make themselves wealthy at everyone else's expense. Or at least make them get out of the way and let the better informed people do what they can to help themselves.

Yeah, I heard the temp in DC today might get within a couple degrees of the all time high.

An all time high from 1918. That darn climate crisis from a 100 years ago.

The same climate.us website I cited above shows the global average surface temperature between 1850 and 2025. That's a better indication of the current trend than cherry-picking single temperature events.

How to be a good climate activist:

Step 1 - own a private plane
Step 2 - lecture the poor
Step 3 - fly to Davos
Step 4 - give yourself an award
Step 5 - make rules to make the poor poorer
Step 6 - don't follow the rules yourself

Climate change is not new. It has always changed. The palm is only a measuring stick of sea level change. Hysteria over miniscule change is unwarranted, IMO. So much more real problems to put that energy to.
Happy Independence Day!

The goal is to minimize wasted energy while we at the same time adapt to variable and unstoppable climate changes that are wholly out of our control. Most reasonable people agree reducing unneeded excess CO2 generation by shifting to both more efficient and less polluting power sources is a positive goal, not a hoax to be opposed.
Lots of ways Engineers and Scientists accomplish this without creating more poverty:
1) Reduce the CO2 created and water wasted in production of every barrel of oil we continue to require and use as Alberta has done for 12 of the past 13 years at the production end.
2) Use pipelines to transport oil to refineries and markets instead of energy wasting trucks and trains.
3)Use high efficiency and the least CO2 producing methods of generating energy when using fossil fuels as the power source (combined cycle natural gas at 60-65% rather than coal at under 45%.
4) High voltage DC power transmission grids to reduce wasted transmission losses.
5) Use high 85% efficient electric motors to convert electric power sources to motive transportation instead of 25% at best gasoline and diesel sources in IC engines.
6) Use the long term cheapest energy sources to provide those energy supplies. Solar, Wind and Hydro are now the cheapest of all sources, followed by natural gas combined cycle plants and enables us to redirect funds saved to better uses like feeding the poor and housing the homeless. Coal thermal generation is more costly, produces far more CO2 and in addition multiple other pollution products. Nuclear Energy is far more expensive than those three alternates and only produces power at a measly 33% efficiency, the other 67% contributes directly to more rapid global warming, mainly in the oceans. The stored fuel waste seeping into the ground water without any real solution in Washington State and the resulting excess cancer in the region just makes it far more idiotic until someone comes up with a real solution to prevent it.

Why present and past Governments are fighting all those obvious efficiencies the Engineers have worked diligently to provide is beyond me. Maybe we need more Engineers and fewer Politicians running society. Why is China the only major country making any real progress in this direction through advanced Engineering and we continue to fight them being allowed to provide us with their solutions for our ultimate benefit? Maybe we should instead be copying them by promoting increased advanced Engineering and reducing the effect of wealthy lobbyists that want to protect their earnings and keep us in the darker ages of reliance on them.

Jz: I see you missed the whole point of my posts. Of course there are events we cannot control, but that doesn't mean we have to deny we are contributing to the problems and can control that additional contribution. I have never supported Politicians who pretend to be guiding us to a better future while lining their own pockets and taking funds from lobbyists to prevent positive change.
Are you really trying to tell me legislating the continued use of dirty coal to provide power at Centralia in Washington State when everyone directly involved had agreed to convert to much cleaner, less polluting Natural gas producing 1/2 the CO2 for the same amount of power was the wisest way to proceed wasn't an act of self serving stupidity?
