I have attempted saving several birds in my lifetime with varying degrees of success. I suspected parasites a few times and a vet gave me something
which helped but I also recall him saying that very same medication could be lethal to other species of birds. A professional opinion would be good on
this one.
I do remember that when I would first get the birds and they were weak it would help to break down their meals with a food processor as it made it
easier for them to eat and digest the food.
Thanks Shari for being such a kind soul...

Ok, I couldn't help myself.
One good tern deserves.......
Hope it gets back to it's buddies soon.
This will not doubt be the begining of something big!
As to the color, texture, smell of the poop.....too much information.

Shari, Congrads...You are trying a difficult task. Vets often hate to do wild birds because they get so many respiratory and other infections.
Without a specific diagnosis, good feeding, low stress and rest may allow tour Turn's immune system fight off any problem. It's always hit and miss
(I've been through two Oil Spills with cleaning and rehab.. 45% recovery is a miracle).. So carry on, do your best and maybe our wild friend will be
back diving for fish soon.
Oh, Soba are definitely on the list for next visit...lots of them. I love them with a little butter and soy sauce in the morning.
Cheers

Cute as a button. Consider yourself blessed that you could have time with this lovely creature. But sometimes, mother nature has her own agenda. Hope
you can get this little guy back to nature, but if it does not happen, just realize that you had that wonderful quality time with this beautiful
creature.

Day 3 with this incredible bird who has touched the hearts of a couple dozen people so far who have met her....we have tried to save many birds with
not alot of luck but it's worth a try anyway and is interesting to observe them up close-
Yesterday was a lively day for queenie...she got fed by lots of her courtiers and walked around the house like she owned the joint. She ate lots
yesterday and even talked a bit...she took a turn out on the patio but fell over again.
But this morning....I went to feed her her first bonita sashimi piece and man she took my whole forefinger into her beak (that yesterday was weak and
only gently touched my fingers)...well she had a firm grip on my finger and I couldnt get it out of her clamped down beak!!!! I had to pry it open
with my other hand!!!!! OK...change in feeding strategy now...chopsticks! gonna try dipping the fish in oregano oil today.

Good stuff, Shari. One good tern deserves another. I'll be rooting for the little guy.

Just off the phonw with my favorite saint...vet Lorraina in Mulege who happens to specialize in bird medecine and we now know that Queenie is actually
a princess who is not quite weaned yet...thus the begging with her beak up. When we were having breakfast this morning, she waddled over to the table
beside me and opened her beak!!! what a riot!!
the black doo doo was do to eating something rotton or bad and means blood in the upper urinary tract..but she's over that now.
When I told her about her falling over and lying there with her wings spread, she explained that this could be a defense mechanism...which makes
perfect sence as she does it when the cat comes snooping around.
I am learning so much...this little princess just may imprint on us here and stick around...hope she gets stronger soon and is off with her birdy
buds.
But in the meantime she seems quite happy to be here and is getting stronger by the moment..she is much more alert and comical now...quite a
character!

Wow way cool Shari. If the bird imprints on you you'll have to get a ultra-lite plane to fly around with it.

Tell us when Queenie flies away
Shari:
I certainly hope Queenie flies away pretty soon to become a Tern again and not a cat avoider. Please tell us when that happens. We'd also love some
more pictures of her now that she's in good shape.

Today day 5 was a real big day for Princess Queenie....she began preening in earnest...

had a big bath for like half an hour....scoured each feather...really cool thing to observe how meticulous and orderly it was carried out.

she would preen, clean, smooth out then fluff up

then she would stretch out her wings

and here she is all cleaned up and ready to fly.

She also cruised around alot....to the dining room, kitchen, and then started flying...oh oh...
I voted to let her go today but it was very windy this afternoon and would be hard to fly...Juan ordered me to keep her 2 more days to have a better
chance at survival( but she might sneak out to the patio tomorrow!!) if I leave the door open....
well bird fans... I need to get some sleep after the big party on sunday...need a couple days to recover enough to post the report...it's a doozie!
just glad there were no arrests or trips to emergency.

No trips to emergency, it wasn't a real party then That's only because I wasn't
there!
So glad that queenie is doing better, and getting ready to go and meet her king!

Well...this morning Princess Queenie is getting downright aggressive...when I went over to her towel nest to feed her...she jumped over to me and
grabbed the whole bonita bag!!! instead of waiting for me to feed her with chopsticks...took me by surprise....she is getting strong fast...the cats
better watch out!
