My grandfather had a bunch of greenish looking blotches all over his arms.

I guess its cool if thats your "thing".. Not for me.

I'm still waiting to see a giant lip plate on my local Starbucks worker. Can I get a muffin on that?

Mango,
There's a world of differences from the greenish blotches your grandfather got at who-knows-where some......how many????.........years ago and the tattoos of today. Time and technology has improved inking 50-fold from when Gramps may have gotten his.

I would bet money that if Pops had a tat from the last 20 years, it would still look great. I'll try to take pics and post mine. It's almost 20 years old and I think it looks as good now as it did then. The artist who did it has it on her portfolio page.
More tomorrow.........

I really don't have a problem with tattoos and piercings. I do know that the inks have improved vastly; but, I was rather turned off by my grandfathers tattoos. He was a tough SOB and a good man; but, I just never admired his tattoos.

Of all the tattoos I've seen, and I've seen quite a few, I really only liked or enjoyed about two of them from the spectators perspective. I don't find it to be an issue in the workplace or society if it is modest and can be covered. Prison tattoos, ones on the neck, hands, and face I find boorish.

I understand the permanence factor and desire for it that leads many to get tattoos. In addition, I also respect tribal or cultural tattoos, such as those done in Samoa, etc..

Personally, I think most tattoos are vain. Each person is different and I respect that. I'm an artist. I like to make my own art and put it on the wall. I know others can see this as vain. Thats fine, it is important to me. I make art for myself, if others enjoy it thats great. The nice thing is I can change it at a whim and I can move on, evolve, and change my tastes if I feel like it.

What one finds as vain, may have deep meaning to someone else. This in, and of itself, renders my perspective irrelevant and I understand that. I don't belittle or think less of someone because they may or may not have a tattoo. I just choose to exist without tattoos and find this permanence even more meaningful.

I really hope people enjoy their tattoos, I really do. I just figured I'd add the perspective of the un-tattooed. I respect you and, heck.. I might even enjoy the artwork; but, I'm pretty certain I'd enjoy the story about the artwork more.

Cheers

Shari,
You're spot on. When I got to the photo of Udo, I smiled big time. I'm a Parrot Head from way back. I have a lovely pair of coconuts  just like Udo's. Brings back fun parking lot parties when they used to let you tow your boat to the concert.

Back to tattoos, here's my son's latest. I wonder what windmills he's battling?

A professional what, Shari?
Professional nut...yes!
Professional JB fan...yes!
Professional cook...yes!
Professional Baja lover...yes!

(however, professional means one is making money at whatever one professes to be. In my case cooking is the only thing I make money at.)

Undowinkler, now Jimmy would be proud of your parrot and last but not least your picture with the means to steer your boat in life, lol:spingrin:. Now, your coconuts are a different matter but at least you posted the picture with them not like Paulina leaving us wondering:?::saint:. Oh, I do remember a number of times seeing those coconuts on females (not males, sorry Undowinkler) that definately made you think about how they put that much ahhhhhhh into those little coconut things. Take care and this is the fun stuff of "No Hurry No Worry Just Fun." Now, who has pictures of college days and Roman Parties with the losing of your sheet dress when the booze got to flowing too much!!! Later------ bajafun777
