Today I heard a good question and answers over Mexico city TV, why there are deaths only in Mexico city?
The answer may clear someone toughts: because Mexico has a very bad public health system, there have not been any deaths on private clinics who had flu patients, everybody walked and are now inmune.
The kid who died in Texas came from Mexico in a very bad shape already.
So at this point, the ones that are safer, are the ones that already had it and came back from it.
Mexico deaths are among very poor people who have no way of getting private attention and also you are right, Mexico has 30'000,000 people; to have 3 deaths, statistically mean nothing, they may have died from something aquired in the hospital.
If you go to Mexico, just be carefull and wash your hands, the masks are not good, but to prevent you from taking your hands to your mouth, you may even enjoy Mexico without so many people. Also just be near a private hospital and that is it, you may even come back inmune.
Why are evrybody so scared, because there would be no way for the public health system to take care of too many sick people at the same time, they also have very few free antiviral, but if you can pay for it, you can get it everyplace.

The opinion of a highly respected epidemiologist, who has been active in the field for more than half a decade is two-fold. The reason this flu seems to be targeting the young is that while it is a variant, there have been other swine flu outbreaks in the past several decades. Older folk have a certain amount of resistance to the general swine flu virus because they were exposed to it. Unfortunately, generation after generation, that resistance has faded and disappeared.

Second. The first known case was adjacent to an industrial pig farm. Because of the conditions of pigs being raised in utterly awful conditions, cheek to snout, pigs succumb to the virus quickly, without building antibodies. Thus, close to such a facility, the virus, without having been attacked by antibodies is more virulent.

Just don't go blaming the Mexican public health system off the top. Not defending it, but this is a complicated situation.

Mexican Swine

It's interesting that there has been an outbreak in the area NEAR a Huge Pig farm, but nothing special among the people AT the farm. ??

BTW, it was pointed out that the so-called "Patient Zero" is only that because his was the only one of the bunch that they had saved a Blood Sample from to be tested.

I see this a.m. that Mexico is going to SHUT-DOWN (?) from 01 May to 05 May in an attempt to slow the spread.

Also that the Border Patrol Guys and Gals have been ordered to NOT wear their masks UNLESS they encounter someone obviously ill BECAUSE they don't want to SCARE people. Must be PC.

Counting Masks between the Mexicali Border into San Felipe, we saw a total of six. No Worries here.

Mexico has a wonderful medical system, it is the best the US taxpayers can provide along the border states.

Not only that but last night our president explained that anyone is welcome to visit ANY hospital, public or private if they are feelings symptoms. I'd like to see Obama do that if this were happening in the USA.

yes it is true, passports only by advance appointment. Its on the SRE website I was supposed to solicit my passport today but gotta wait until ??

remember EVERYTHING beaurocratic or connected to the government goes through DF so closing down DF is the same as closing down all of MEXICO. We are now paying the price for the fact that we have never de-centralized government or beaurocracy at all. This is an example don't let it happen to your country. :fire:

Listen to Joe

AND Stay Home.

The White House, once again, is trying to "Essplain" away the Blowhard's Pontificiations.

"Stay off Public Transportation, out of the Subways, Off the Planes".

You have to love that guy.

The rumor is that Obi called the VP and said "Joe, Shut the F Up" .

Probably not the first time.

One of the Gals (from his side) said "Well, what can I say. You just never know what Joe's likely to say".

Ron,

Good luck in Nevada and please continue your posts here . I would say your timing was excellent given the goings on in the last two weeks. Please do not let the grumpy ones here scare you off. They can not handle the truth.

Yeah, Vegas and Nevada have no dust.

Proof that a lifetime of being delusional doesn't change just because of relocating from Baja to another place.

It's a small world afterall, Mickey.

I cannot speak for Ron but I understand his feelings of watching Mexico slip into failed state status in just the last 2 years. I am sure you are very happy with the crap happening in your little corner of paradise.
Gull, why don't you tell us all how things are going there and how much better it is now compared to 2006.
At least when there are beheadings there now we can have a sense of relief that maybe some of the victims might have had the swine flu.

Doing MY Part !

In the best interest of promoting Hysteria whenever possible, I ran off a New Bumper Sticker for my Truck pointing out that the H1N1 Virus is the SAME one that caused the 1918 Pandemic.

Which is True. No point in getting into details that will just muddy the potential for Panic.

Just trying to do my best in support of Anarchy.

Well, well Mr. Feelings, I would be delighted to tell you how things are. Wonderful, seeing there are virtually no gringos around and terrible for the locals because the tourist economy is trashed.

Which do you take particular delight in?

CabRon, liked to watch the misery of the locals as it made him feel, Mr. Feelings, like a big man, not the Mickey Mouse that he is.

I feel like breaking into a song, "feeeelings, oh, oh oh oh, feelings..."

We typically go out to dinner on Friday night. Same place, same order.
Decided that with no visible panic in Centenario (no masks yet) we would stick to our hum drum routine. A devil may care friend joined us and I was pleased to see the place had more people than usual considering the early hour. 2 1/2 hours, never heard a cough. But, I topped my dinner off with a lovely shot of tequila just in case. I think I must have read somewhere that viruses are not fond of limes.
