Our neighbor in San Diego was having a 50th birthday party and let us know in advance that there would be a live band and lots of noise. Rather than
stay home and close the windows we decided to join them. They had food and an open bar (with bartender) and a great band. Jill remembered one of the
guys in the band from back in the old days.
We ate, drank, danced and had a great time and only had to stagger a few yards to get home.
I would bet that most folks having a loud party would be happy to have the neighbors join them, especially in Mexico. Beats the heck out of sitting
home being peeed......dt

Thanks for Your Responses To My Whine
I originated this post with the objective of giving a giggle to people who had a lot more to worry about (cough, hurricane, cough). After all, who
doesn't enjoy a story about a big, loud obnoxious party next door thrown by people who don't invite you and don't care about how they are disrupting
your evening and sleep? Including, oh G.., bad karaoke sung from 2:20 am to 3:30 am.
I am in recovery from the migraine and the eye-floaters are subsiding, for those of you who inquired into my health.
For the record. this party was an over-the-top extravaganza that lasted for three days and we were not notified, consulted or invited to participate,
so, that was it as far as us joining the revelries. As my southern belle grandmother always instructed me, "You never no mind ever go where you
aren't expected."
To Dave: I couldn't pull any plugs - they were securely connected to the main house and guarded by ugly a.. somebodies.
To Packoderm, there are no pictures to share - think high brush and palm trees blocking our view (and cameras).

If I had the knowledge of how that major electrical thingy works, I would have pulled the plug in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately, my experience is more in the way of conversation, interior design and flower arrangements.

yea, the whole thing of neighborhood parties is a delicate one.
We've had some HumDinger's in our neck of NowhereVille, USA...
All nighters, folks taking off in MoWogs and shooting propane tanks.....(Nuts2 was part of that caper... )
but it's all good cuz we usually only have 1-2 major neighborhood rocking parties a year.
We usually know then things are happening and if we are not invited, we try to make sure the mutt is tied up so he doesn't be come the uninvited
guest................which has happened more than once!!! What can I say the dog is a party animal!
One of the percs of a small town is when you invite the owner of the general store...who has a large walk-in cooler..... to your party....you can keep
the extra kegs in the store cooler and go retrieve them throughout the evening (after hours) and into the early morning hours as required.
Anyway, it seems to happen a couple times a year,,,,,,loud music, all night traffic......
If we lived in the city, that would be normal noise. But since we DON'T live in the city, it's a big deal that everyone deals with on the 1-2 times a
year that it happens. It just seems to be that at some point in time, each of our neighbors has had a "loud obnoxious" party (including ourselves)
and it's OK because we know that it's not an every day thing.
If it were an everyday thing, that would be hard to take.
Special occasion..........ROCK ON>>>>>>>>>> even if we're not invited! Everyday occasion....that would be hard to take.

I would rather deal with large party noise a couple times a year than the constant leaf blowers and chain saws I hear weekly where I live in semi
rural norcal. However, nothing worse then not being able to sleep due to loud noise playing into the night. Had that issue at our baja beach house
over easter week.
However, nothing beats the absolute needles going through my brain when I took my then 4 year old son to the Mexican Heritage festival in San Jose, CA
a couple years back. We got there, walked through where all the booths were and every other one had these HUGE boom boxes and speakers screaming loud
music. They were all pointed toward the center where you walk and playing loud different music at the same time. I had never felt so overwhelmed by
loud music coming from all different directions. It was a shame because there looked to be some very good food and cultural activities to watch. We
left after 10 minutes. It' weird that one would consider that 'entertainment'...it was more like torture to me...couldn't get out of there fast
enough.

I've always thought that Mexicans are inherently hard of hearing. If not inherently, developed from an early age.
I hate noise...especially when there shouldn't be any, like after the sun goes down.

A party is a party untill it turns into a rock concert. There's a place for everything and some events are too large for residential neighborhoods.
To deny that is thoughtless, inconsiderate and selfish.

Kind of - no scary eyes, the teeth are bigger and when they lean on me, my chair scoots across the room, taking my hands off the keyboard.
Then they block my access back to the computer. I guess that is what you might call an "intervention".

There is a live and let live attitude in Mexico. Part of the appeal of Mexico is that very attitude. However life is a series of trade offs.
We for instance cannot park my motor home in our driveway for more than three days PER YEAR. The HOA N-zi's posted a note on our door when I was out
of town for a day and the garbage cans were not taken in and OUT OF SIGHT. I was once called a Sexist Pig for holding the door open for a young woman
in Berkeley. I got some very nasty looks in the south for insufficient display of patriotism at the raising of the flag.
I recall the graciousness and tolerance of me shown by Mexicans in my Hippie days. God bless 'em.
It is a trade off, give me a drink and lets party on. I know that I will not be hasstled in Mexico for my behavior, as odd as that may be.
I have learned to bring ear plugs.

Have ended up at some nice parties in just this fashion... yeah, I get tired too.. but, I'm trying to put off the dirt nap for a little while longer..
My son thinks T.J. is the New York of the West Coast.. he likes it the "pounding music" all the time, plus all the rest that goes with it... he keeps
coming back ok..
Maybe 40 or so years ago, but, today I run for cover when it starts pounding like that ,some place quite....... unless someone says, hey.. you want to
come over and have some beer and some food..
I can't help it, I'm a weak person!!
It's going to be dangerous by tomorrow, were leaving again to go down... we have been back less than a week.. have gotten bit again by the Baja bug..
just got some more auto insurance and by around 9-10 were out of here... going south not sure how long.. I did not want to come back a last week.
Sorry, someone asked where I got XX's amber.. I don't know.. the wife did the shopping while I stayed in the car with the kids (dogs).. which is
another story.. sitting in the parking lot of the Walmart in Ensenada with two dogs for an hour and a half (was told Walmart was just great to shop
for neat food items that you don't see in the states).. got pitched some really good BS stories for money, I'm mean really good!! anyway she got the
stuff.. I did not even know what she had until we got back.
Wife just surprises the heck out of me... think she's out me wired... yeah, beside being weak I'm easy too..

I understand this to mean:
I live the life I choose and allow others to do the same.
All well and good...if we're on the same page.
But if living my life interferes with others doing the same then we have a problem, no?
No matter how you slice it this becomes an issue of responsibility and common courtesy and has nothing to do with culture or custom.

Really.
It doesn't ask how do you survived a Palo Alto Party next door. In Palo Alto you would call the cops because the neighbors would be breaking a
disturbing the peace law and they would come out with decible meters etc. If you lay around saying to yourself "these people are irresponsible, and
lack common courtesy" over and over in your head you might end up doing something really stupid to teach them some responsibility and common courtesy.
The question is "How to Survive a Baja Party Next Door?" and we are all familiar with the issue, I wonder why that is? Maybe they do things
differently in Mexico and that is why the person is asking the question and the Mexicans on the board are saying "get ear plugs", "join the party"
etc. you don't hear them regailing their neighbors for being disrespectful and suggesting interfering.
