I know you are in the Great White North... I was hoping that sometimes cell phones work and the charge is minimal or part of your monthly plan.

Landon explains why they don't ship out of country.......but not why he hasn't developed a system to mail to US address with an out-of-country purchaser using a credit card...

I would imagine that putting an Almanac in a shipping envelope and using USPS would circumvent UPS brokerage fee ($20 usually) and be less than $5.00.....but then my imagination seems to get me into trouble at times. How is it that Discover Baja is able to ship for less?

Also, David, if my cell phone had a plan that made it less expensive than my land-line, I would be a happy guy:smug:

Subject: Re: OUT OF COUNTRY ORDERS

Sir,
The average cost of shipping a single Almanac USPS Priority Mail to Canada is about $30.00. Your costs would be more than $55.
The reason you are able to have other publications shipped at a more reasonable rate is because they are volume shippers.
If we had more than 100 orders from Canada at one time we could obtain a very reasonable rate from DHL. We don't.
If we had several thousand subscribers from Canada we could get a reasonable rate mailing thru one of several major companies that handle bulk, (magazine subscriptions) delivery to Canada.
You are comparing a subscription monthly based publication with single order book, not the same beast.
You can order the Almanac from www.discoverbaja.com, they can ship to Canada.
I would hope that mailing from the US to Canada would be seamless at comparable rates. It is not.
I have researched this problem extensively with knowledgeable mailing agents and their consensus is that a reasonable shipping rate (not double the cost of the Almanac) to Canada for a single book order is not available for us, just do no have the volume.
Do not think that I would not like to sell and ship you a Almanac at a reasonable rate. I have as many Canadian friends as you. I refuse to charge you more than twice the rate that I charge US customers and I can not afford to pay you to buy the Almanac.
Cordially,
Landon

Well, until you drive down through San Diego and stop at Discover to buy them you will need to pay extra for Canadian shipping. Again, I spoke to Carol at Discover Baja about your request and she said they would happily ship to Canada... with their postage cost added.

I am hoping that Baja Judy of http://www.bajabooksandmaps.com will also be distributing them soon. I hope they can ship books outside the USA, as well.

Just ordered 2 from Discover Baja to be shipped to Canada. The toll-free line works from here, so the call was free.

He's not the only one. I have an account at Parcel Express in Sumas and even though its a US address many companies will not ship to it when they notice I'm using a Canadian Mastercard. This just does not make any sense to me.
One thing to keep in mind is that some of them that won't ship if you use a credit card will ship if you use PayPal.

Well,
I have consulted with my therapist, spiritual advisor, conscience, and horoscope and have come to terms with the notion that my older Almanac (scanned so I can print out travel editions) will suffice for all future Baja travel..

My GPS maps, Lizard Lady guidebooks, and general sense of adventure and common sense will take me to where I need to go in Baja.

I can rest easier now as can those worried I might continue to whine on this thread;D

Over and out on this one...:saint:

The changes are minor Ged... but new paved roads added (Blvd. 2000, Libremente de Mexicali, Obsrvatorio, Asuncion, Tortugas, Abreojos)... Some changes on the road to San Juan de Dios and Valle Chico to correct the previous edition... the road south of Rancho Grande at Gonzaga was re-aligned better... the Santa Gertrudis short cut has been added, plus the roads on the last Almanac that don't exist have been removed in the new (San Francisco de la Sierra to Santa Marta and the west route out from Mision Santa Maria to San Ignacito.

20+ days and nothing. I need VOLUME now.
After 3 phone calls and 3 emails this month to the publisher on the said web site, Landon obviously doesn't really wanna sell his maps at wholesale anymore. He seems to be ignoring his retail and online vendors - or possibly the case, he and his crew could be overwhelmed w/ the strong demand. Did he print enough this time, to make himself profit yet?

So I wait so patiently and try to find a supplier of these new books.

I need over 100 copies wholesale (immediately). Someone please contact me if you have any leads.
