Time to get out and see what's there, in a rural Baja frontier town. There are many restaurants and taco stands with some great eats... Sure they may
vary, that happens here too. A tyruck stop town? Nope, I have spent many days and nights in El Rosario, attended all of their Baja-Rosario Cultural
Festivals, visted the museums and cultural-historical sites... It isn't a truck stop town, by that definition... It's roots go back to 1774, before
America was born!

David's historical studies notwithstanding, I think I know what goat is saying. It does have the feel of a truck stop town. And I will attest to the
fact that I have always been disappointed by the meals I've had there. That said, everyone has different tastes and is entitled to their opinion.
However, whenever we travel South, we make it a point to stay in San Quintin and eat at Jardines. I challenge David to claim that any restaurant in El
Rosario is equal to or better than Jardines. On that same note, I wonder if David has ever been disappointed with any meal he's had or any place he's
stayed? Balance is important.

I love El Rosario and when I go down to visit with Mama I of course stay at La Cabana Motel and eat in the kitchen of Mama Espinoza's Restaurant. To
date, I have not had a bad meal. They even make me homemade flour tortillas when I come. What can I say all the girls care about me and feed me well.

I would say that Ed's lobster dinner (fixed by Ed, 'his' way) was outstanding and better and cheaper than anything in the region. Otherwise, Jardines
is a A-1 class joint (or close for rural Baja restaurants... The Mision Santa Isabel restaurant on the north side of San Quintin is pretty good, too.
Jardines is also expensive compared to other area places... but that is to be expected.
I didn't care for my meal at the bus stop cafaterria in El Rosario, so the answer is "yes" I have not always had a great meal in Baja ... or Rosario,
in this case.
Mama Espinoza's is greatly improved now... it deserves a fresh look if you have been skunked there before.

I am defining the region as San Quintin and El Rosario... but would really mean between Maneadero and Guerrero Negro.
The point is the eating places are not all 'truck stops'... I never see trucks stopped at any of the Rosario restaurants all the evenings I have spent
there... Perhaps they know better eating places elsewhere?

No offense to ELINVESTI8 (that David). Perspective is good. I heartily agree to try Mama's place next time I'm down. OK? But as for the other David, I
would still like to see more balance. Just think about your credibility here when it always seems like everyplace you stay and everyplace you eat is
topnotch.
Again, everyone has their own personal tastes. One of the great things about this forum is that all ideas and experiences are shared. Lord knows that
so many of the better folk in Baja who are providing accommodations and meals that excel need to be supported. But in a Darwinian sense, the ones who
don't make the cut should be outed. It's only right.

You are confusing the concept with the reality. Can't count the number of joints off the grid between El Rosario and Guerrero Negro that have trucks
parked outside. Doesn't mean I want to stop there.

They do!and I think you can find paces in GN that are way better than Eds. But you don't get that far very often do you. hey again. to each

This guy, ( I don't know him) must be one of the leading businessmen in the community to have his own ambulance service. Probably better than what is
available to the local towns people

Language is key: BETWEEN Maneadero and Guerrero Negro means not including those two towns...
Guys, I sure hope you don't wait for my trip reports to try places in Baja and report back. How about adding your own reports...? When I go to Baja,
it is for fun and vacation. I have a positive attitude and WANT to have a good time! Naturally, if the food isn't fantastic, I attribute it to the
natural order of restaurants to have a bad day, different cook, under par food condition... whatever... But, I move on looking for the next
experience.
Some of you just sound like you either hate life or enjoy being negative... many of you go to Baja far more often than I, or you live there part or
full time. Instead of posting regular updates, you wait for someone else to, then pounce on with your negatives.
When Baja Angel and I go to Baja... we are happy and excited to get away from our jobs and enjoy outdoor life! Perhaps having a positive attitude
reduces the number of bad meals or other experiences?
Seriously, most places we stay or eat at in Baja are really good or fun. That is waht I report.
You want bad stuff... If I think it is something to really alert you about, I will. There are many opinions and tastes here.
For the record, we usually camp but when in transit or for other reasons we stay at motels or resorts and eat at restaurants.
Places we won't go back to include: Cielito Lindo for the 'famous cracked crab'... I have tried it 3 times at least, and Baja Angel once: Paprika
overkill and bloody fingers.
Yet, it is raved about by some here.
Mama Espinoza's Motel: Mold under the sinks shown to me when we looked at Ken's room there... We showed him our room at Baja Cactus, and that's where
Ken stays now.
Turista Motel is also great, comfortable and clean (and cheap). Ed's B & B looks very nice, as well.
The Sinahi wasn't very appealing when we examined the little rooms... But, that was before Primo took over the motel.
Ignacio Springs... stayed there one night last July: insect problem with big c-ckroaches in the room and a large mouse when we came in after dinner
(spider webs, too. We had our camp spray and citronella candles... A large hole that could easily be fixed in the bathroom was how they all seemed to
enter. Now, the place is beautiful and the owners very nice... so it might have been the normal summer bug problem or whatever... No need to trash the
place because of the one incident. We just felt for the high price, it could have been cleaned better. In my report, I said something like "room
included 'wildlife experience' ". I continue to show the beautiful photos and give links to the place... the positive reports here outweigh what we
found.
The fantastic two nights we had at Bob and Susan's Playa Frambes Lighthouse Resort easily erased the experience at Ignacio Springs... which we laugh
about now.
Important to us is having a good time on vacation. I will warn you guys of any place to 'for sure' avoid. I just prefer to mention the good places
when there are choices.
The more Nomads who take time to provide reports on their travels, the better for us all. Please don't rely on just a couple of us to base your trip
decisions.

Thanks, DK. I was pushing you a bit, but since you do post so much about Baja, it's only fair to let fellow nomads know when something is a little
off. we all are looking for the best experience and good value when we travel. Obviously, we have varied personal tastes. However, frequent posters
really reveal much of their own personalities, and readers can then filter the information with that in mind.
Or maybe Baja Angel is the absolutely luckiest woman in the world, because you're s easy!

This week marks our 5th year together... It's been all great... Yes, I am amazed that I found someone who can put up with my passion for Baja and
other quirks!

You can never tell....
I posted a couple of days ago about the lobster at Ed's, and DK asked who cooked it? Ed did, both the lobster and the scallops. Then someone asked if
we needed to use the ambulance Ed provides, after dining there. No, we did not. I feel badly about posting now, as I like Ed, and have had good meals
there in the past.
DK: Here's to you mi amigo....Ed had Fox News on the TV and specifically Bill O'Reilly, so he can't be all bad huh? I could not even get that channel
at the Baja Cactus.
Speaking of the wonderful Jardines: We stopped there the next day, on the way home around noon. Made the mistake of having hamburgers: I won't say any
more except; don't have hamburgers at Jardines. Like having a steak in a seafood restaurant and vice versa. First bad meal there too, but it is just
not their "cup-o'-tea". Maybe it was not our week to travel, who knows, but we beat the rain.
