Ok KASHEYDOG, I'd like to hear your suggestions on alarm systems, must use solar, no phone lines, cell only, plus 4 cats that are very agile and a dog
or two that are all insiders, have ordered a web cam to place for one area we feel we are vulnerable, just have to figure out what to do with it when
it gets here, it will be on the WiFi system, you can U2U me if it is a lengthy reply, but others may also be intersted as well.

So sorry that this happened to you. That is pretty scarey stuff, I don't think one is ever prepared, even though one makes preparations.
Take good care of yourself, it sounds like this is a routine for these guys and that you are not a specific target but one of opportunity. Some
condolence that is eh? Glad that he left and went no further than the guest bedroom, saved you all some more grief.

WOOOO HOOOOO Gypsy Jan is back.
Seems I've set my self up for a challenge. Thanks to noproblemo2 and my big
mouth..
OK I'm up for it. I'd like to come down and meet all you guys. look at your properties and see what kind of challenge WE have here. There isnt going
to be one soultion for all. I'm not an expert but have some experience in security measures. Just depends on if you want dead cooks on the outside of
your property or inside... Just kidding. We'll just do the much tamer systems
that maim them for life..
OK, OK I;'m over reacting here. Although there are times I would like to have my way with these guys...
I'm sure GJ and Mr GJ are in that place right now. Let's get some revenge........ and not
let it happen again...
I u2u'd "noproblem2" earlier today in response to a message from her with the following message:
You've been down there and known them for 4 YEARS and you guys haven't met ??? What's wrong with that picture??? I can see I have my work cut out for
me when I retire and get down there in 2 years. I thought that's what retirement was all about. Meeting and having fun with people.
OK, when I get down there everybody is comin' over for a party at my house and whoever doesn't come is in big trouble when I show up on their door
step to pick them up. We've got to get some solidarity among the Nomads to help each other through stuff like "GJ" is going through.
How about local meetings to discuss needs, wants, concerns, work parties for helping with home repairs, alarm systems, etc.... Boy I can see this is
going to be fun. We'll start a local "United Nomads club #001". Kinda like a chamber of commerce or a neighbor hood watch system. What do ya think?? :
)
This is a good idea for all you Nomads down there. Let's get together and DO SOMETHING. Come on people This is not going to be difficult. So we all
get together every 2 weeks, have a couple of tacos and drinks after a serious NOMAD LOCALS meeting. Everybody's got
their specialized talents ( both guys and gals) that can be used for the good of our community. Lets get together. I'm not yet retired and still
working in San Diego. So I'd love to come down when I can and help. OK, I've put the idea out there. WHO"S going to step up and help get it going
 I
can't do this from San Diego with just posts on this wonderful board. But we have to use this means of communication to get it started and organized.
We need local area groups to start meetings and help each other. Which means somebody needs to stand up and contact everybody in each
area on this board and have a get together ( Baja Nomad Locals Meeting). Don't wait for me, that's 2 years away and you need help NOW.
I can help from up here near the San Diego area but work time constraints limit me for now. DAMN, I wish I could retire now. Don't forget "
"youth and skill will always be overcome by old age and trechery"
That's an idea in the making. Sorry I got carried away there.
For our immediate needs, I'd like to meet with you GJ and NOPROBLEM2 and see what WE can come up with. Can you guy's u2u me with phone numbers so we
can set it up? Or call me, my number is right here on the left of this column for all to use if they want to call me. Call me 619 224 0808 or nextel
direct connect 125*136811*8.
I'm looking foward to meeting you both and introducing you to each other in person.
OK, toneart
I hope all that qualifies for being at least newbie prattler....

And just where are you??
You in Baja? Want to be the first Nomad Locals organizer in your area??
There's a whole lot of fun to be had here, organizing all of the Nomads to help each other. I've seen your posts on the Cuidad Constitution mordida
thread. Just think what the Nomads could do if we all got together and rode on that city on the same day and confronted city
officials in a peaceful, united group.

lets meet each other!
Sorry to hear about the ordeal that Jan had to go through!
But if there is any good out of this it would be nice to see us all band together and see what we can do as a group.
I propose that we pick a weekend evening and a meeting place such as Splash (now that they have enlarged their great place!) and at least put faces
with names as a start. We much like Kasheydog and others are only weekenders as we still have jobs in San Diego.

Thanks, skipowell.... .. for your support.
That's just what we need and how this whole thing can get started.
Splash is a good start for a first meeting spot. It may be a little small for what I would hope would be a big turn out. We have to get the word out.
That will be by way of Baja Nomad postings and the old "grape vine.
So, people, let's talk it up. I know this may be a slow process and take a few weeks to organize, but we have a start here. It's up to all of US to
DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING or JUST LIVE IN FEAR.
Not my idea of a wonderful retirement in Baja and I for one will not live that way.
If we get a really big turn out I would suggest Ortega's Buffet on the north end of Rosarita. It's big and has several large semi private rooms that
lend themselves to having meetings. It may be more centralized for everybody. I know there are Nomads who live north of Rosarita from La Playas down
to Rosarita. We could also switch meeting places to various spots each month to accommodate everybody's local proximity and merchants who would cater
to our needs. Let's see what the response is and then we'll set a date and time from there. If any body wants to call me, it's OK..
Ok folks, somebody step up with another suggestion.
Hey, how about somebody down in Punta Banda getting something going for the Ensenada area. You guys don't want to be left behind by the Rosarita Beach
Chapter do you.. Your first assignment will be to torch those poppy fields I just heard about on another thread.... .....
Thanks again Lori & Jeff

I want to add my support to GypsyJan and hope she is doing well after the ordeal. Many times in a planned-out home robbery or invasion the bad guys
will throw a piece of meat laced with anti-freeze over the wall for the dogs first to kill them- glad this wasn't that type of crime. We had a dog
poisoned once and it was heartbreaking.
We ahave an alarm system but instruct the monitoring company not to contact the police- sadly we still have no trust that the Rosarito police won't
make things worse or even be in cahoots. Your best security system is a loud, unmonitored alarm and your good neighbors. I have found that here in
Mexico it may take 5 years or more before you get to that level of trust and support with them and only through watching your actions from behind the
curtains- which is why we tend to only deal with other property owners- not the renters passing through here with a few exceptions of course. Of
course you have to keep your guard up more in the Baja Norte border region than in Baja Sur imho- because many criminals deportees and newbie narco
recruits wind up here.

Woooosh can you provide more info on a specific type of alarm system that may be best for here? Since GJ's break-in I am taking home security very
seriously, even with the metal bars I want more security.

Alarms are not my strong point. It's not that they are expensive- they are not. But they are hard (for me anyway) to program for the entrance and
exit delays and motion detector sensitivity. I bought a DSC wired model at www.smarthome.com and had the builder install it. If you don't pre-wire, you can get the wireless models but those door and window contacts are
more expensive.

I'm afraid I'm still in the US (SF Bay Area). If I could have neighbors like you, I'd be very tempted to move south manana!
For the record: I have never posted on a Ciudad Constitution mordida thread (or any thread related to that subject); it sounds like a horrible
situation, there, and I'm glad I foresee no immediate (or not so immediate) reason for having to drive though it!

Good points, Woooosh. Thanks....
Point #1
If we can get a viable organization going we can solicite the help of the police dept. maybe even have the Police Chief attend a meeting. I know
several big business people in Rosarita who can help with that. We all know the buisness people would support us. It's only good for the whole
community and business in general. I've been introduced to the mayor (Hugo Torres) a few years ago through one of my contacts and I sure he'd back us.
Point#2
Guess why it takes 5 years to gain trust in our neighbors. " "NO COMMUNICATION" would be the correct answer. Just like I've seen up here in the
states. we all move into a new home and nobody comes over to say "Hello" so it takes 5 years to get to know our "neighbors". God, I hate that trait in
us.
So an organization like ours built on a platform of helping each other in a social atmosphere will help get everyone to know and trust each other in a
short time.
You want in.....
BTW. This should not be limited to just people who post on Baja Nomad, but all down here.
