I don't think I could get on a boat called the Chili Queen with a bunch of guys. Who's the genius who thought up that name?

I don't think the Chili Queen is a new panga, I often saw it in Loreto prior to it being sold.

Dan: That sure looks like one of Diaz'z newer pangas. Any Idea of who it belonged to in Loreto??
Several and I mean Several years back in Loreto they Started a "Co-op for Tourist Fisherman.
' There were at least 20 locals that signed up and had the use of Boats. If a Tourist came in and was looking for to go Fishing he was referred to the
Co-op. The next mexicano on the List was called and got the Job. Some where Taxi Drivers, Etc.
It did not last but about a years as people learned they were not fishing with the True Fisherman.
Sure is a Nice Panga.

that panga used to be in Loreto but in English I never thought of it that way, but now that you brought it up it is pretty hilarious
I do not agree with Shari's sentiments on cooperativas for tourism, they are beneficial and they can work, members can agree and with the experience
that comes from doing the job over the years, they can become very successful and lift up the entire community.

Ylwklr, Baja would seem more attractive to me if gas hit's $5 bucks and the party boats along the coast have to hike prices, no? Also, long Range
guys might consider driving down to fish here locally if the price of gas hits the ceiling! Bring the family, fish Loreto, East Cape/ Los Cabos
for less dinero? Just a thot. In fact , it seems anywhere in Mexico would be a great deal this summer! I'm staying down for most of it. A/C, of

yellowklr has a VERY good understanding of the local community here - except for juanchys - joaquin - domingo ... I do not know of anyone else
interested in fishing with gringoes since they are so happy with their regular "job" ... Our coop is very successful and all make a really good
living.
all of this will be a new experience and hopefully much much smoother all around ... at least that is our hope .... no one knows how much going out
will cost, who to contact for reservations, etc. yet but the meeting to decide all this is scheduled for this month.
we looked at the boat and it sure looks brand spanking new. I hope it is 'cause that's what everyone here believes.

I think this all sounds very exciting for your community. New endeavors... success or failure are worth a shot (of tequila that is). The option to
change is stagnation and what fun is that. Good luck to La Bocana...I personally was completely impressed with the coop there.

makes sense Tio....I fish baja because of the people and lack of crowds....but i can see people going to save the $$$ as well. I spend 5-7 weeks a
year in baja and spend less than one Long Range trip out of San Diego!!!

today the vacation request is for the strong tides last week of october. subject to change of course, depending on the vagaries of the wind, swell,
and where the fish counts are most abundant.....
nothing prevents us from a quickie on the new BocanaAirlines. keep us in mind.

I agree Pam....cooperativas CAN work IF they have good directors, training and infastructure...I just expressed mixed feelings on a fishing coop
getting into tourism. In some areas, tourism coops have been formed and are doing well. Success of a coop depends on many things.
Sounds like La Bocana coop is moving a a good direction and time will tell how well they do.

Yellowkiller is right, most of the fishermen would much rather go fishing, come in sell the fish, and be done with it. It takes a lot of
understanding, willingness and openness to want to do any guiding. Most of the people coming down want to fish like in the old days where they paid
$50 for the day and gave a whopping $5 tip for cleaning the days catch, they were loud and boisterous and had a tendency to be pretty negative if the
fish did not cooperate and they could not fill the boat with fish. My hat is off to guys like Juan Arce (Shari"s guy) , Juanchy, Juaquin, and
Domingo, that are able to pull this off and have some fun doing it. Guiding is hard work and takes more "psychology" than fishing skill.
Having a Lupe Diaz Panga should make a big difference as that is one of the best hulls ever designed for the Baja and Sea of Cortez so it will be
interesting to see how well it does in La Bocana where the swell is normally a little longer. I have fished this hull out of Mag Bay and it did very
well, so it should be a real hit in Bocana.

That boat was sitting out in front of Diaz shop in Los Barriles for at least a few weeks....it's sweet....dt
