Agua Verde and Timbabichi this April/May
When the NORRA 1000 comes about the end of April I plan to follow it either all the way or head off to Agua Verde after the Loreto stop and take the
dirt road out to Ciudad Constitucion or near there then turn back east to Timbabichi and explore the area. Anyone wanting to hook up let me know and
we can plan the trip.

I have taken that dirt road out of Aqua Verde a few times now, and always looked at the other roads going east back to the sea.
Just read another post about a trip to Timbabichi, could be a plan for me to join up.
What's the NORRA 1000? Another offroad race?
I'm based in LA and would later continue to La Paz.

Gentlemen,
I was considering that road southwest out of Agua Verde fpr last year's ride (motorcycle)....examined as best I could via Google Earth. It appeared
that the first few miles heading south out of the start-point sand wash would be the difficult part.
Any comments about that section would be appreciated.

It is a fairly steep ascent, tight turns and a bit washed out here and there.
Drove it last in November and we had no problems, rather love those uncommon roads.
I do not have much experience with a packed motorcycle......
Two years ago we took that road down into Aqua Verde towing an Adventure trailer, at night. Again no problems then.

The NORRA event is a 3-4 day staged ralley and not a typical off road race. Both highway and dirt are used to get from Mexicali to Cabo (La Paz last
year).
NORRA (National Off Road Racing Association) was the original creator of Baja off road racing with their 1967 'Mexican 1000'.
The Mexican governemnt thought they could do better and kicked NORRA out of Baja and the government with their new BSC (Baja Sports Committee) heald
their first (and only) 'Baja 1000' in 1973. It was a disaster and money for the winners disappeared at the end in La Paz (but they did get a set of
Samsonite luggage!).
No Baja 1000 was run in 1974 as their wasn't time for Mickey Thompson's new company 'SCORE' to host the big race. SCORE had its first Baja 1000 in
1975.

Info on the race is at http://www.norra.com/
They race in the dirt and transfer on the pavement. For the race
Day 1 stops in LA Bay
Day 2 stops in Loreto
Day 3 stops in La Paz
Day 4 ends in San Jose del Cabo
I understand this year they will run the east side after CD Constitucion thru San Evaristo down to La Paz.

Fern,
Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing here: I am familiar with the gravel road into AV from the main highway just south of
Loreto....no problem there.
I was asking about the road south out of AV that ends up twisting it's way on dirt to Ciudad Constitucion/Insurgentes...
Is that the one you referred to as "fairly steep ascent, tight turns and a bit washed out here and there."
Gracias

Si senior,
the first two pictures are from that road.
Sorry, I did have one from the gnarly sections, probably kept both hands on the steering wheel.
The second picture is taking almost on top of the pass (coming from Constitucion) when you see Aqua Verde/ocean for the first time.
Third one is our favorite beach camping spot, next to the old palapa in front of the small island.

That would make for a cool trip. Started wanting to do the AV - CC road last year when I found out it was indeed open.
What's in Timbabichi?

We'll try our best to make it. Sounds like fun.

I want to go. Are we camping or just driving through to somewhere else?

I was there this last Nov. Stayed on your favorite beach where Fred and Nancy had their trailer and built the palapa. It is also my favorite spot. We
were there in early Nov, had 2 really good days and then the wind came up and blew us out of there. Got 2 good days of diving and boating. Your secret
spot looks like just to the north of where the road comes down to the water. I mean the Loreto road.

I was planning on camping there at least overnight or maybe a second night and allow for some fishing and exploring around.

Larry,
you are right with the secret beach.
The palapa needs some attention, it's leaning quiet a bit. Might have to spool up some winch line.......
TW,
do you have a schedule already?
Camping out in AV and meeting there would be great.

My plan was to follow the NORRA Mexican 1000 race to Loreto which is April 30th and then head to Agua Verde and on to Timbabichi or continue to follow
the race to CD Constitucion and go to Timbabichi and back to Auga Verde off road. But no specific plan. I am open to suggestions if we can get a group
together to go.
