Sally, so sorry that the struggle is continuing to be so damn hard! You and your family remain in my thoughts and prayers. No one ever say that
Juanita gave up, or that her mom didn't support her in every possible way. You are both heros. I hope you can get something other than cried out,
exhausted and collapsed sleep.
Blessings to you both.

Testing to be a bone marrow donor candidate
I could research this myself on-line, but I figure the Board has the answer.
How do we go about getting tested?
What's involved?
What are we looking at committment-wise?

Sally,
As a mother of two precious boys who mean the world to me, I can understand what you are going through. You are a strong woman and I am sure your
daughter has inherited your strong spirit and will put up a good fight. I will pray every single day for your daughter until she is home with her
family. God bless you and Juanita. Many prayers will be heading her way.

replied to letters or calls made from the doctors or staff at UCI.So next they try to contact donors from Europe. At this point, it is looking very

GOOD news...Abrazos Nomads, you are the BEST! Sally. An after thought, can someone post a pic of her on the cover of WON that was a few years
back?(um, DK?) so that all can see the vibrant person she is? Just a thought...

Dear Sally, if I had that WON (Western Outdoor News) or if someone else has it and can post the photo or email it to me to post for them, then you
know I would...
I do have the photo of Juanita and her sister at my Viiva Baja #4 party, Feb. 1, 2003:

Maalaea Garcia and Juanita Miller are Msal's beautiful daughters.
Juanita owns El Fuerte Sportfishing in
Puerto Escondido, Baja California Sur. http://www.elfuerte.com/
(caption with photo from 2003, Msal is now sallysouth and El Fuerte Sportfishing is no longer at Puerto Escondido)

Hi Sally,
You are all on our minds. Yes, cancer is nasty stuff.
Give Juanita my best wishes and hopefully someday soon she can put this behind her. She and the kids are fortunate to have you to help.

Prayers + Good thoughts sent your way ..
Mulegena inspired - posted on our website on Reel News and Guest Photos pages with hopes it too will attract the 'one' needed ..

Amigos and Amigas - altho our business is all about Sportfishing, FOR US, it's all about being alive, being thankful, and paying it forward whenever
possible.
Some of you may know or remember Juanita and Ty Miller - They used to own Juanitas Sportfishing many many many years ago. Beautiful Juanita has
leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. Her mom, Sally lives in San Juan Capistrano, California and is taking care of Ty & Juanitas two young
girls ..
Juanita is at Scripps Center in Irvine, CA ...
Anyone can be being tested as a possible donor-- for this young woman or someone else.
Here's the link to the bone marrow registry. http://marrow.org
This photo from the benefit in October which allowed them to get this far.

Sad to say, Sally, I am too old and broken to donate for Juanita.
I do pray for a donor to be found soon. Yes, it is a huge commitment. But what greater gift might we have than to give life to another, especially a
young mother.

A quick update. She has a lung infection, not pneumonia as of now, and is in the ICU.Please accept my appologies for ranting here.I know how much so
many people care about her and this is kinda like my "pillow place" to go before I check out for the nite. From here on out, I have become very aware
that I must be careful of what I share here.I will share only positive and first hand info .I have some awesome pics of Juanita out of WON that I have
put into my scanner but thats about as far as I can get .Going to see her tommorow, will give a light update in the PM

Sally,
After spending all of 2010 with my wife with a similar leukemia (she is now well) often in neutrapenic state as I believe Juanita is at this time, I
would like to offer some words of encouragement to you Sally. We had episodes when it felt like there was no hope at all. But little by little each
difficult hurdle was jumped. Time and again, we were distraught, but modern medicine kept her going. Here we are now with my Anne most "likely cured
for life", according to her UCLA docs. We hope for the same for Juanita. In 2010 we witnessed many leukemia patients do well and we are still friends
with several.
We feel your pain as we were there, you are in our thoughts and we hope one day you and Juanita can look back at this experience years from now.
In Anne's case she has 8 siblings, one was a match but Anne ended up not needing a transplant. There is a 1 in 4 chance that any one given sibling is
a match.
To anyone on the fence about being tested for bone marrow compatibility, should you be a match there is no longer any pain in donating marrow. It is
simply slowing giving blood while you watch a movie. There is no more bone marrow "harvesting". There is nothing to fear as there was in years past.
All the best to you Juanita. You'll get through this, I trust this will be so.

Thank you so much for that.I spent some hours with her today and it was pretty tough.I so wish that her recovery will happen. My sweet, strong loving,
giving girl is a fighter. Her white cell counts have started to go up a bit, which raises the hope she may be beating the beast. We have to keep the
faith. And yes she is the neutrapenic state now.She has a mass in her lungs and now they will be doing a biopsy, trach-something on her tommow to see
what it is.The marrow donor is being aggresivly searched.I will know more tommorow.Gene, may I ask how old Anne is?So glad for you both she is doing
well and home.
