I had them try to climb up the paddle while I was trying to hit them. Because of a Cotton mouth I will never use a live fish basket agian ever.:o:o:O:O

Used to see them all the time in the sound at Nags Head, NC:

There is not much that you can do other than seek medical attention.

Couple of studies to consider:

Using a porcine model, some researchers tested the efficacy of using compression bandages after a simulated severe bite from a western diamondback. The compression bandaged did prolong life, but still, all 20 pigs in the study died.

Another couple of studies that are useful involve the testing of Sawyer Venom Extraction Kits. We've all seen the yellow boxes at Wal-Mart, I don't suggest that you get one.

In this study they showed that the suction kits remove about 0.04% of the venom and the rest of the fluid is just interstitial fluid due to the swelling happening from the bite. Link to the abstract

So... If you're bitten by a large diamondback, hope for a dry bite and try to get to medical help.

Just be aware newcomers, there are not many hosptials close by to all of those Beautufill places that you go to in Baja Sur!!
