David - When I'm in Mexicali (I'm not now) in the summer I usually wake up about 2:30 and I 'm at my office by 4am or earlier - a lot of times my work
day is over by 11 or 12 noon. It makes it kind of nice in a way.
I've tried on a couple occasions to get mexican friends of mine interested in this forum but they don't seem to stick to it - I don't think they
understand some of the stuff we post here - or the concept of people having so much extra time on their hands.
To kind of change the theme here a little - I noticed early on that the people from the Imperial Valley - either side of the border - are extremely
friendly and giving (as long as you're not a total ahole type) - it's one of the things that attracted me to it years ago. I think it has to do with
a basic survival necessity - from back before things were developed and they brought in the water and all that - people have to help each other to
survive.
It really reflects itself in the friendliness of the people - in fact you can probably see it in my presence on this board....I'm such a positve fella
and all...

Braulio of Mexicali from Sir Yankeeirishman
Hey! You work/live there? You know...it would be excellent if you were to do postings on Mexicali! You know...places to eat at, things to see, where
to get building supplies, what NOT to do there(!)..da da da I always wanted to know in detail about this town. It really would help me, and I am
sure, a few hundred otheres here.

I've made the offer several times here to answer any questions about Mexicali - it stands. A lot of folks may not realize how complete a city it is -
that is if you want to experience a mexican city with less border influence than TJ it's right there. People will welcome you.
The Fiestas del Sol will be happening late summer - I'll make a pitch for it then
The thing is I don't really trust people who post constantly (DK's an exception imho - I suppose there are others)- to me it's an indication that they
don't really have a life - or somethings out of balance with them. Their view is kind of out of whack. I have the sense that some people on this
board go around the BC peninsula just looking for things they can post - I think it screws up their whole perspective.
Yankee - We touched base a while ago over a bag of baseballs. If you want a piece of Baja there in Sacramento go to a bar on Marconi just west (or
north) of Bus. 80. It's the real deal - narcos and all.

Yankee - it's open now - right there where Auburn Blvd. becomes Roseville Rd. - corner of Marconi circle - they have a bunch of bees painted on the
walls - it's called Pa?uelos or something like that - I just can't recall.
There are some tile places on L?zaro C?rdenas in Mexicali with show rooms - let me know when you're headed down and I'll be more specific.

I enjoy Mexicali - it seems to be a great city and as Brauilo says has much of everything. I go up regularly for VW parts and machine shops. Like to
just drive around and look at the town. I'm regularly suprised.
Brauilo, maybe we can share a taco or something one of the next times I come up?

Having lived in El Centro for 13 years prior to 1986, I can tell you that Mexicali is a wonderful and exciting city. We went down there at least once
a week----there are so many fine restaurants-----and great shopping for truly Mexican stuff---good stuff, not junk. We were always treated well
there, by lots of very friendly people. It is a huge city!!!
Braulio is probably right, they are friendly out of mutual respect for surviving in a harsh invironment-----summers for 5 months are hellish, but for
the 7 months of winter it is perfect, weatherwise.
I have nothing but fond memories of Mexicali, and I too wish there were more posts about it.
In response to Me No--------I find David K's posts to be the most helpful of any (and I have never met him)----there are many more fine posters, but
Davids are the most helpful to me. The folks that insist on shooting arrows at others I find the most uninteresting, counter-productive, and
tedious. The motives that folks have for posting is of no interest to me---I only want to learn more about Baja CA.

bajalou - let me know when you're passing through - it'd be my pleasure.
MeNo - nice post man - in fact I'm going to give you the Nomad Baja Analyst of the Day Award for such a well thoughtout response.
All I did to start this thread was point out some stats - L - that's just reality. If you're embarrassed by the reality then change it.
I mean it's not like I tried to spin it or anything.
Oh no.
Not me.

Ya ya! Off to a slow start they were. Now the joint seems to be going at it well. That Mom and Pop store is own by a buddy of mine...so I go there
alot to shoot the breeze at the store, and to shoplift whatever I can Hows the
food in there anyhow? Normally I force feed my crews to the taco wagons...in my book...the best damn tacos are in at these wagons. North of Mexico
that is.

What the hell happened to this thread?
It degenerated from a perfectly useful b-tch/whine-fest into a totally useless conversation about Baja. :-(
Let's turn the corner: Man, I sure do hate it when gringos come down here and play loud music! Anyone else? Who's with me?
P.S. What's your favorite beer?

I have to admit Braulio, You totally lost me on this one. On one hand you are kissing DK's butt, and on the other you are slamming Bufeo. Who
happens to be one of the nicest, most respectful, intellegent, gentelmen, god ever saw fit to put on this planet. Not to mention a few other things.
Man, have you got this one screwed up.

When I was still in Fremont CA, the VERY best burritos and taco's were at a wagon parked a block off Fremont Blvd and Peralta. I'd pass up any other
food spot in town for them - wow -
Oh well, that was then and this is now. Have to have the great ones in Mexicali and San Felipe!
