Since I know where the toll road is I would keep driving and get tough with my driving until I got to the toll road. If real cops they will deal with me there or if past the toll road booth I would try to get to the police station in Rosarito and deal with it there. If the Chief of Police of T.J. and Rosarito can be killed on the road driving to work then I have a valid reason for trying to get to a lighted and protected area to deal with whatever the flashing lights want to bring up, hopefully. Since I can not take my Colt 45 down to Mexico my communication skills will have to kick in as well as my possible driving skills. Better a peeed off local cop than me being robbed in the middle of nowhere in the dark. Later------------------bajafun777

Bajafun....I'm with you, and besides, I have insurance on my car......a little offensive driving may help. Also carry a 1lb box of 1 1/2 inch roofing nails in your car......they cover a lot of highway when thrown out of the drivers window.......

The incoming Mayor of Rosarito is considering a proposal that would allow a motorist the option of driving to a populated area (gas station, convenience store, etc) where a third party could serve as witness.

Of course, the police have to be convinced to play along.

Seems like the whole area is to be avoided. It's not worth the risk.

I got pulled over yesterday morning, Sunday 7 AM, by the cops while driving east out of playas to the border. I was just east of the toll road and doing 60 mph in a 40 mph (60 km/hr) zone. He politely asked for my license and registration in pretty good English and we chatted for a bit about how to correctly pronounce my name. He gave me a verbal warning to slow down and said the next time I would get a ticket. I thanked him, we shook hands, and I was on my way.

I got pulled over on the 18th for the same thing in the Playa area, headed toward the first toll station. I was going just slightly less: 80 kmph (50mph) in a 60kmph zone.

He too was very polite, we chatted about where I was going, how long my vacation was, who I was going with, how often I come to Mexico. I eventually ended up paying him the mordida he asked for, after a fake trip to the station , and he never actually wrote the ticket. He was in a real police car with a light bar.
