I have changed the map on my website. It now links to a similar (better) map provided by the public radio station of San Diego, KPBS. The map will be automatically updated from now on.

Does not look like it was hit, yet.

It's updated a couple times a day. I have been working from home this week and following events closely like others. We know of six friends/households that were/are evacuated. Only one sustained any damage, lost truck/trailer/superpanga/motorhome and part of his patio but his house was spared. He lives in Jamul on several acres. He woke up in the early AM with minutes to spare and turned all his animals loose before leaving with very little. He returned early today and found all his animals (horses, goats, chickens) OK. He said someone had left notes on his horses saying "we were fed and watered last night". He does not know who it was yet, whether it was firefighters or neighbors or.........?

Two other friends in Jamul had fire within 300 meters of their homes.

Lots of folks not so fortunate. :(

Lots of nice stories in the news about the valiant efforts of the firefighters and law enforcement all over California this week. Hats off to all.

Mateo,
I guess that is what I would do with my horses with only a moment's notice too. Fashion a dog tag of sorts attached their head collar/halter and turn them loose. They would run from the fire and then find their way home in the end, God willing.

It is so scary what is happening down south, and we're trapped here just watching and reading.

We were thinking that Jamul or Dulzura were places we might check out for a future Casa de PDyC. That was pre-fire...not sure what to do now.

Well, after the area is burned it will be safe for a few years! Keep the area well cleared, build with brick or block, tile roof, sprinklers to wet/ cool the home on an independent water source.

Tough or impossible to make a home fire proof...

A false sense of security, perhaps..

I heard one caller on KOGO who was evacuating. He had been there for only a few months. They had just re-built after the Cedar fire four years ago. I do not know the outcome.

Hey Jeans, How are you doing. I feel like I a milllion miles away and have no idea if you were affected, of course I have been thinking about you a lot since I read about the fire. Hope your sweet little casita is safe, at least it appears that you are.
