I was having a good time reading this until mike odell mentioned good chocolate. That hurt. You can get a good burger and maybe fresh crisp fries at
Scot's El Candil. Last three burger trips to Mulége though, only the frozen ones

cheap tequila. good trade-off. What do you wish you could buy at you local cantina? |
Arroyo, your list resembles ours in many respects. But we live over on the mainland, so some of these items aren't simply a dream.
What we have found:
Cottonelle--fragrance-free TP that holds up in the, uh, trenches
Ca. style Chards-I assume you mean fruity and oaky and hot. Try some of them from Chile. Some are similar, although the whole world is now trending
AWAY from the CA style of the 90s.
herbs-forget the supermarkets. Our majors carry them but they are in such poor shape. We have farmer's markets where they bring this stuff in from the
fields. But the best soln on the herbs is growing them. We have rosemary and basil and mint on the property. We ask other gringos on the local message
boards for other stuff.
What we havent found (not even at Costcos in Mex):
unsweetened peanut butter-I got so desperate I tried a Skippy product called Natural Super Chunk. Still some added sugar but works in a pinch. VERY
CHUNKY. Found it at a Mega store. Just got back with two jars of Kirkland PB.
Wild smoked salmon-we've found farmed, smoked salmon in smaller-than-Costco quantities also at a Mega. It'll hafta do for bagels. Costco quantity on
smoked salmon is too much for the two of us.
What we continue to desperately seek:
Claussen pickles
Costco-style bagels (decent frozen alternative from NY City Bagel Co. at the Megas)
pepperocinis-not anywhere.............looked everywhere!
Stoned wheat thins-even the TJs substitute is a far cry from Red Oval Farms. Just brought down three boxes. GOES WITH THE ORGANIC PEANUT BUTTER,
RIGHT?????!!!!!!!!
decent lunch meat (especially corned beef and turkey)-everything is so processed down here, all comes from a processed roll. 200 varieties of ham,
WTF!!! We arent big on ham.
decent whole wheat bread-I'm talking something like Orowheat Health Nut or Wheat Berry bread.
decent rye bread-rye is at some bakeries but NO CARAWAY SEEDS! Well, it just ain't rye in our book w/o caraway seeds.
Biggest finds:
Trivento wines. Many red and white varietals. Almost all under 7.00US. All good, not great, but good. Trying a Torrontes tonight. All from Argentina
and Chile.
Local produce-We are astounded at how they are growing incredible swiss chard, italian zuchs and English style cucumbers over here. Two farmer's
markets per week in the Guaymas area. Or, just ask the local guy with the produce in the roadside truck. He will have it for you next time.
rice paper-Three Ladies Brand. couldn't believe it when we found it in a little grocery store. But we have the makings for Vietnamese style spring
rolls. IN general, however, our area could use a well-stocked asian market. I hear it from every gringo down here.

One more..... Can't believe that in our area you can't find a ripe vine picked tomato. Mostly I see them green shipped back from the States and when
they finally ripen there's no flavor

Sharks and Cypress...
Try nice big frog legs from the lake at San Ignacio. We gigged there a long time ago while living at Pta. Chivato.
Now as to those yummy Dungeness, well ....we like RVing on the Olympic Peninsula and camping near Dungeness Pt. It's like Baja, only greener and
cleaner.
What else do we wish for?...hey....how about LAVENDER! hint..hint
