As Confusing and convoluted as Mexico itself.

gnukid has a grasp of the facts, for sure. it seems as if he/she knows enough to know when to not say anymore? i couldn't really care less, i have no interest in the legal outcome of this battle. as i've said, i have multiple friends who own their own slice of the dream as they see it, in town away from the drama.

it is just a shame how this has all come down. Reuben has a lease! WTF???? get in line for the day the lease expires. until then, act like an asset to the community, your chance will come.

it costs what, $15/day PER PERSON to camp in the dirt,, "out there" surrounded by 100's of others (maybe less NOW with the economy what it is!).... get it while you can, lemmings.....

from the reputation Jaime has earned in "our" ejido NOB, steer clear of this cat....

Mucha Suerte, Reuben!!! don't let the Chilito's call the shots.

i surfed there once in 1996, seemed like a sleepy open country then. maybe had one little palapa selling drinks and bad food to a handful of surfers, if i remember correctly, and lots of places to camp at edge of cliff.
from what i hear it is no longer a sleepy little place.
would i recognize the place today??

Gnu

Have you ever been there?... Are you aware of the history?

I have. The worst case of gringolandia I Have ever seen. Most houses built by outsiders.. not locals. Food brought in.. not bought locally... fun made about the walls. but go look makes Sadams compounds look easy

This was a beautiful area 30 years ago... that has been taken over by SoCal type investors ... And now they are paying the price for not being a part of the community.

Gnu... go visit... maybe its your kinda place

The ejido had designated a long series of lots along the bluffs to the north, and they were being sold by Jaime Adkins on behalf of the ejidatarios. I believe they had certificados parcelarios. Did titles come through on any of these parcels? It was my understanding some already had fideicomisos, which of, course, requires title. Are these the lots involved in suits?

no matter what, the place is toast. too many people with $ in a close environment with limited resources(specifically surf) will only lead to politics and fighting amongst themselves, which will ruin the vibe of the place. (it has for me long ago...)

May I, with deep respect, submit some brief North Road thoughts.

Gnukid; thank you. I am inspired with your words. Please keep mind channeling, you are a free ride soul surfer. We all need your words of truth.

rts551; thank you my lord, I am neither judge nor jury.

oladuce; your avatar is the old beacon, not the new one, me thinks!

Woody in Ob; I know, that you know, that I know, that you know. And your wife is super cool. Until we meet again at...

Shari, si, mon, cabron, esta muy dramatica. It is better than a novela. It's real life! And, ah yes, the surf lingo code... of silence.

Juan del Rio, you invited me into your compound the first year and we had drinks in your compound just last year. Thank you. But, your words of wisdom are needed. Por favor.

Sculpin, but of course, as the palapa turns. You have seen it from what it was, to what it is today. And of course, let us all think about what is best for the true locals. I feel this will not help.

Rubenand, please express my love and friendship to your employees. Regardless what one may say, you provide an economic multiplier to San J. And I am afraid, overall, negative and selfish attitudes will hurt the people of this beautiful and loving town.

At some time in the future, I will provide some deeper North Road thoughts.

But until then, for your consideration, and perhaps the future home of the San J Marina.

Humbly submitted,
A newbie Baja Nomad (I should post more)

Future home of BAJA NOMADS SURF CAMP.......!

Think about this....in the future when others ask for surf info/directions....we just send them to "the camp".....yes , it will be crowded there but most won't know the difference.....and the rest of us can go to the secret spots and surf alone.........

Wow, this cracks me up with all these rumors and Ruben the campground guy playing the "good guy" spin.

Did any of you see Ruben's financial proposals that were floating around about 5 years which started this fiasco? I did personally and saw his complete map. Ruben was seeking investors to develop 100 lots on the point all the way up to 6th point, with a 30 room hotel in place of the campground. It was the most grotesque violation of a great natural place that i've ever seen. Also never mind the fact that many people already had deposits on the lots past 3rd and would have been burned if Ruben was successful. Did you think he cared?

Oh, and does everyone think Ruben would have kept the campground open once his hotel was there? Right... So the ejido got a better offer and much better for the point that a hotel will not be built there. And now Ruben is crying foul? Sorry, that's just too funny.

The point was ruined long ago anyway. Fortunately Baja has so many great places these developer types haven't set their sites on yet and i'll keep going to those places and avoid these these greedy gringos trying to grab everything up for themselves.

Late.

support WiLDCOAST....

here's a copy of an email exchange i had with them not too long ago;

"Hello,

I am the coordinator for our wildlands program at Wildcoast. We have been working for several years along the Pacific Coast of the Valle de los Cirios to protect key coastal properties from the rapacious unplanned development that threatens this unique shoreline. We are working with the local ejido and landowners to negotiate purchase
agreements and conservation easements on the properties that we feel are most threatened and/or biologically significant. There are several unique wetland areas that we have recently protected through these partnerships. We have focused primarily on the points and bays that provide habitat for a diversity of marine and terrestrial plant and animal species as they are the most vulnerable to development. One
fundamental aspect of this initiative is to maintain open public
access so these areas will continue to be enjoyed by all. If you have any more questions feel free to let me know.
Thanks for your interest."

and;

"Hello,

Yes funds can be donated to a specific program and can be directed to a specific initiative. In this case Wildlands program - Valle de los Cirios Pacific Coast.

As of late, we have secured two additional parcels bringing our total acquisitions to 15.2 coastal miles. We have negotiated conservation agreements with one family that owns the Punta Rocosa-El Marron area resulting in the protection of approximately 7,000 acres there. We have secured parcels at Punta Lobos, Bahia Blanca, Punta Vibora, Faro San Jose, Puerto Canoas, several between Canoas and Faro San Jose and several inland watershed sites. Availability has played into our approach and we are in continuous negotiations with additional parcels around Bahia Blanca and Punta Cuchillo. As our project progresses we feel confident that we will be
able to protect Cardon, Punta Cono and Punta Maria. We work with landowners or tenants that have a vested interest in their land (primarily fishing) and assist them in developing sustainable living and fishing practices. Once the skepticism among holdouts diminishes (as they see we are serious and without a hidden agenda) and there is the realization that Cancun will not come and make them millions there will
be more affordable opportunities.

So far we have protected the southernmost and northern most reaches ofthe ejido as well as 13 sites between, ranging from 2,000 acres to 60 acres. In this next phase we are targeting available adjacent parcels to those we already have, the vulnerable points and bays, and biologically significant inland spots. We have protected two of the three permanent
wetlands on the 100 mile stretch. We may, in the future, place some effort on the Alejandros area but as of now it is kind of a mess around there.

If you'd like to come into the Wildcoast office I'd be happy to show you a map of protected sites and share some imagery/stories.

Thanks for your interest,

Zach"

My check is going in the mail next week. These guys are on the right path!!!!

I am only a humble surfer, and of course, allow me to present some more North Road Thoughts.....

This is a story that I was told many moons ago...........

Once, there was three surfers.

They were very good surfers and they were very respected, not only at their home surf break but around the surfer world.

Their local surf break was having some issues. Pollution to be exact.

Of course, none of the political establishment (the man) considered them worthy. Surfers, Ha! No money, no votes, no power. And the three surfers voices was and were ignored and pushed aside by the man.

But these three surf cats decided to stand up, stand up against the man. And with no money, no political power, they search for the one dude (another surfer) that respected mother nature and hated the man (politicos, establshment, etc, et al). And more importantly, this dude had plenty of cash.

Now at this point of the story, one must remember that the third rail of surfing is to shut up, do not talk about your surf break to outsiders, and no media attention. Nix nay, nada. Silence. And especially, no photos, or maps. If you touch this surfer third rail, you are black balled.

However, this dude, knew of the reputation of these surfers. The three soul surfers motivation was to preserve and protect their home break. From Pollution no less. And by now, against the man.

So.... these three surfer drove down in their Volkswagon from LA (and not Lower Alabama) to Laguna Nigel, California. The town and center of this dude's business. The three surfer pitched their story and asked for some cash to help them. Help the surf break, help them fight the battle, against the pollution issue and have a seat at the table with the man and fight the man.

Fantastic as it might seem, the dude flowed them ten grand, 10,000 American dollars. Back in the day, 10K was some serious dough, cash, greenbacks, and of course, my favorite, moola. And to flow that type of cash to three surfers, regardless of their intention, regardless of their reputation, was a long shot, if not a waste. But this dude had and still has the spirit and soul of a surfer.

So....these three surfers had a dream and a mission. And now they had 10K to achieve their goal and dream. And they did....their dream is now a internationally recognized organization. And as a surfer, you may be a member of this group.

Thank you Gordon Clark, the Dude. Thank you for the 10K. Thank you for your faith. Thank you for your wisdom. Thank you for giving three surfers the cash to make a dream possible. Thank you, thank you, I am blessed, and we are all blessed as surfers, and as members of this blue planet.

Without sucking up anymore, Gordon, can I visit you on the Big Island? or OR? Maybe even Capo Beach? You have truly seen it all. From the "day" to now. I would like to meet you. Please.

Nomads, especially the Baja Surf Nomads, can you tell me the surf break of the three surfers? It's no secret, nor hidden spot. McConaughey drives by daily and Allen still rules the lineup.

Furthermore, can you tell me the name of this internationally known organization?

And more importantly, can you tell me the names of the three soul surfers with a dream? The simple dream of we (surfers) can be a positive force of love and respect. That we (surfers) can make a difference and shall achieve more. This is not a deep Riddle, who are these three respected surfers?

With respect as deep as the Pacific Ocean,

Marco
